In the depths of winter, many of us are not only getting progressively paler, but are also suffering from dry and dull-looking skin, which is not so cute for us girls who want to look our best on nights out during FROST Week. Thankfully, dull winter complexions can be easily cured through gentle exfoliation and moisturizing. That’s why oil-based sugar scrubs are a favorite for many of us girls during the cold winter months. Although you can buy sugar scrubs at most drug and beauty stores, you can easily make your own sugar scrub at home with ingredients that you probably already own. These scented sugar scrubs also make great gifts for your friends and family. Check out this simple DIY sugar scrub recipe!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cups coconut oil
  • ÂĽ cup baby oil
  • A few drops of scented essential oil (optional)

The main ingredients to your homemade sugar scrub are white granulated sugar and coconut oil. Add about 1/3 cups coconut oil to one cup granulated sugar. Microwave the coconut oil for 15 seconds and stir it in a cup to soften any lumps.

When I made my own sugar scrub, I added a little bit of baby oil and grapefruit essential oil that I purchased at Bath and Body Works. I found that the baby oil really made a difference in helping make my skin feel super soft. The grapefruit scented essential oil made the scrub smell delicious and also made the perfect little gifts for my friends and family. I also added some grapefruit zest to my scented scrub to add some color. Simply use a cheese grater and grate off some of the outer skin of your grapefruit and mix it in with the scrub. Although I added scented essential oil and grapefruit zest to my own sugar scrubs, this recipe still has an amazing coconut scent on its own from the coconut oil, so you don’t really need to go out of your way to buy any scented essential oil!

Pick up some jars similar to these from the dollar store to put your sugar scrub in. You can also use any empty mason jars that you may already have at home. If you are planning on gifting your homemade scrub, add a cute label or a picture of a grapefruit or any other fruit on the lid of the jar, depending on which scented essential oil you chose to use in your recipe.

And that’s it! It’s really that simple. Enjoy!
