New year, new you, new semester. Are you not a morning person and accidentally added an 8 A.M. to your schedule? You will have more time in your day to get things done by becoming a morning person. If you are stuck on how to become such, have no fear! Here are some tips on how to become a morning person, at least for the semester.
Plan the night before: Whatever that might be for you, get your backpack ready, if you need to pack a lunch, maybe a to-do list, and whatever you plan on wearing for the next day. Maybe you have an important meeting and need to dress up, or if you plan on studying, more comfy clothes. Laying out a cute outfit might actually encourage you to dress nice, rather than grabbing those sweats.
Water: Set water next to your bed for in the middle of the night if you get thirsty but more importantly, Â drink some right when you wake up. It will make you feel instantly refreshed and awake. Drink at least 20 ounces, that way you can get your daily-recommended water intake.
Alarm: Set a fun song as your alarm, like Wake Me Up by Avicci, something upbeat to get you in a good mood. You won’t want to turn it off! Also, write a little reminder of the first thing you want to do that day in your alarm.
Allow Time: Allow yourself at least 3-5 min to actually wake up, check your notifications, or your to-do list for the morning/day. Then start your normal routine.
Open shades: Before you start to get ready and get out of bed, open your blinds, curtains, or shades for fresh sunlight and a wake me up. Splashing water on your face will also do the trick.
Make your bed: This way you won’t want to hop back in bed and it will be made for the rest of the day!
Get your body moving: This can be stretching, sitting up, rolling out your neck, meditating, yoga, going on a run around the lake, or going to the gym first thing before your classes. Whatever works for your schedule!
Breakfast: Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so don’t forget it! Some easy and healthy breakfast ideas would be oatmeal, cereal, hard-boiled eggs, grapefruit, toast, banana, and yogurt. Add some orange juice, green tea, or coffee, for you caffeine addicts!
Last minute homework: For us procrastinators with left over time in the morning, finish up on some reading or a homework assignment, and always remember to check your email just in case class happens to be cancelled.
Wake up, breathe, and put a smile on your face, It will make it easier to start and get through your day. Know that your best is good enough and if you don’t get your goals done for the day, know that there is always tomorrow.
