Energetic, charismatic, motivated. These are the three words that our campus cutie has chosen to describe himself. When I caught up with him and spent a nice chilly afternoon getting to know his interests and dating preferences, I must say, these three words sum him up perfectly. Â
HC: What are your interests and passion?
BB: Since I’m a theatre major, I love singing in shows, I love acting in them. I’m also a big reader so I used to be an English major.
HC: An ex-English major you say? So what made you switch to your current majors?
BB: Originally, I was an English education major; I wanted to teach high school English. When I got into one of the classes where we were starting to create lesson plans and started teaching essentially, I just realized that it was not for me. Luckily I found that out early in my freshman year so I was able to switch and still graduate on time. There was a girl who was both a PR major and a theatre major when I was a freshman, and she kind of showed me PR and said, “you know, you’re really into social media, and you’re a good communicator, what if you look into this?” So I took the principles of PR class last fall and I fell in love with it.
HC: In what ways are you involved on campus?
BB: I have two jobs on campus. I am the assistant to the Director of Public Information. I’m her lead PR writer so I write news releases for the university. And I do all of the marketing and publicity for the theatre department. So whenever we have shows, I’m the one who contact the media, I write the press release and I run the social media accounts. I’m also in Wenonah players, which is the theatre group on campus. I’m in Alpha Psi Omega as well, which is the honor society for theatre.
HC: Now let’s talk about ideal first dates. Describe yours.
BB: Most people are always like, “Oh! Romantic dinners!” I’m kind of a child at heart so I like unique fun things. One time I went out on a date where a guy took me to a show so it was perfect; we went to a musical. I guess anything that is spontaneous and something that I wouldn’t see coming, not like a typical, oh let’s go out for coffee, let’s go out for dinner… that’s boring, I want something fun! I also think that movies are the most awkward first dates because you can’t get to know them. You just sit there in the dark!
HC: How about ideal dates with yourself? What do you like to do when you’re in your own element?
BB: I love my friends and I love being with people and hanging out. But I really do love my alone time sometimes. I love to sit in my room and read a book or watch Netflix by myself. I’m really into yoga, I love going to yoga, and so that is kind of my one thing where I feel confident enough that I could just leave and grab my yoga mat and go to the gym.
HC: What’s something people would be surprise to find out about you?
BB: That I’m really into yoga. When a lot of people see me carrying my mat around campus, they’ll be like, “What? You do yoga?” Yeah, twice a week.
HC: What do you look for in a potential love interest?
BB: Somebody who can make me laugh, definitely. I love to laugh and have a good time. Similar to what I said about first dates, I like somebody who is spontaneous. I’m really good at guessing the predictable, so I like people who are unpredictable. I like to be on my toes. I do kind of like the cliché romance so anybody who is obviously romantic as well.
HC: What are your major dating red flags?
BB: That’s a hard question. First of all, I think somebody who is not as energetic as me because I have a lot of energy all the time. So somebody who can’t keep up and just want to sit at home, which is fine sometimes. But four out of the seven days a week, I would be like, “Let’s go somewhere, let’s do something.” Secondly, somebody who has problems integrating into new friends because I have a lot of friends in different friend groups. So if you can’t fit in with at least one or two of them it makes it a little hard because I do love my friends.
HC: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
BB: Hopefully New York, that’s the goal. I would even settle for Chicago. I would really like to work in some sort of entertainment type PR. If I had it my way, I would love to work for E!, I love E!. That’s probably something that everybody knows about me. I would love to work even out in LA or be a publicist for a celebrity.
HC: Last but not least, how does it feel to be nominated as our campus cutie?
BB: It’s exciting. It was, what’s the word I’m looking for… a surprise. I was literally on the treadmill for about an hour and then I saw the message, I was like, I can run for another 30 more minutes! It was like a burst of energy. It was the last thing I thought I would see on my phone.
