Guydance: What If I’m a Bigger Girl?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Winona chapter.

Dear Guydance,

I’m a bigger girl, about 195 and 5’6, and am worried guys won’t see me for me, but rather my larger body type.  How do I stick out from the rest?

Sincerely,

-Anon

Dear Anon,

First of all, I want to stress that it doesn’t matter what you weigh, how tall you might be, or what your hair looks like; there’s a guy out there who will love you for the person you already are. Please don’t think that your future love life is determined by impressing some guy with your looks. Any guy will tell you that some of the most drop dead gorgeous girls have the worst personalities, which in turn makes them unattractive.

In regards to your question, this is what I do have to say: if you are perfectly okay with your body figure and don’t feel the need to lose any weight, that is perfectly acceptable. Guys are going to be drawn towards girls with confidence, it doesn’t matter what your body shape is because if it doesn’t bother you, it will not bother us. Now, if you do want to lose some weight and put forth the effort to do so, that will attract guys as well. Whether you’re already confident in your body or striving to improve it, men will be drawn to that. However I MUST add what the biggest annoyance to men is and will definitely push us away. Do not be the girl who complains about her body figure or weight every day, but does nothing to change it.

It may sound dumb but never forget that your personality is the most important part of yourself. That is what we will fall for more than anything else. So how do you stand out? Be confident in yourself because if you’re a “bigger girl” and your appearance doesn’t bother you, it won’t bother us.

Best of luck!
