The Nick Jonas Comeback

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Winona chapter.

A Disney star no more, Nick Jonas left little to the imagination when he channeled Mark Wahlberg circa 1992 in a recent spread for Flaunt magazine. Young girls everywhere swooned over Nick and his brothers when they were “burning up” the screen in Disney’s Camp Rock. They were in awe of the bold statement the trio made when donning purity rings just four years ago. Suddenly Mr. Nick Jonas is back on collegians radar. Nick’s new spread includes a recreation of the famous Calvin Klein Ad that is a wonderful distraction from the midterm crunch upon us.

It’s hard to believe that Jonas is already 22 years old and ready to leave his Disney past behind. We can see that he is working to create a new personal brand. Perhaps wanting to distance himself from the term “brother” famously attached to his name.

Jonas has been busy lately; he recently finished filming for a DirecTV drama Kingdom and his new solo, self-titled album hits shelves in November. With all these exciting advances in his life it only seemed right that he reenters the limelight in a bold way…in teeny tiny boxer briefs. If Nick was trying to gain publicity for his upcoming show and album he definitely has our attention now!

In Jonas’ recent article for Flaunt magazine, the writer Tagert Ellis points out to Jonas that even websites like Spotify cannot categorize his new music yet, is it tied to pop, R&B, or to old Jonas Brothers tracks themselves? When asked what Jonas thought of that he said, “That’s awesome. If I had to make my own list, it would be a little bit of Lionel Richie, a little bit of Frank Ocean, and a little ’80s vibe in there somewhere. Even ‘Hold On, We’re Going Home,’ the Drake song, that kind of vibe.” It is exciting to see Nick Jonas breaking the mold and showcasing not only a new sexy look but also a fresh, unique sound.

The newly released second single off of Nick’s new album is titled “Jealous.” The music video opens with Nick on a motorcycle passing a road sign that say “leaving childhood.” It is easily assumed that Jonas is done with the past and he is now on the road to his future. With a combination of his new show, music, and those scandalously wonderful pictures it looks like his new journey is off to an exciting start!

Nicks new album “Nick Jonas” is out on November 11th, but until then we can all enjoy his new singles “Chains” and “Jealous” … and of course those gorgeous washboard abs.
