For those of you who don’t know, Instagram, Twitter, and Tiktok have been going crazy because of Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber, wife of Justin Bieber. Now if you’re like me, you were a “Jelena” stan back in the early 2010s, and still believe they’re soulmates and meant to be together. However, Justin is married now, though fans are noticing the marriage might not be a happily ever after. Many are noticing that Hailey has been dissing Selena and copying a lot of different aspects of her life. Since the drama seemed to have started out of nowhere, I have decided to give a complete timeline of the drama and how it has unfolded over the past couple of weeks.
Late 2010
This is when the first rumors of Justin and Selena had surfaced. Many fans had noticed they were getting closer though the duo had claimed it was all platonic feelings. They said they saw each other as siblings.
February 2011
In February they went official on the red carpet for Vanity Fair’s Oscars party. That is what we consider the beginning of their relationship.
November 2012
After almost two years of red carpet appearances, cute dates, and social media posts, the couple broke up for the first time. A little while after the breakup, they were seen having dinner together, and then it was shown that they had gotten back together.
January 2013
Justin and Selena had reportedly gotten into a fight on New Years Eve, causing them to break up once again. They were on-again-off-again for eight years, so this was just the beginning of their breakups and make ups.
April- July 2013
Though it’s unclear if the couple had been together during this time, Justin had posted many different things on Instagram insinuating that they were together. He had posted a picture of them cuddling and captioned it “‘You’ve been making music for too long babe come cuddle’ -her” This obviously wasn’t behavior that just friends had.
January 2014
This is when Justin got arrested for drag racing in a rented car and supposedly got a DUI. During his deposition in court, he confirmed that they dating once again. That didn’t last very long; In October, they broke up once again
November 2014 – October 2017
During this time Justin and Selena had both started dating other people and had contact through cryptic tweets and messages said in interviews. Selena had dated the Weeknd and Zedd during this time and Justin had started a relationship with Hailey Baldwin. It didn’t last long, as they broke up six months later, then Justin began to date Sofia Richie. At one point they had accused each other of infidelity, though eventually harsh words turned to sweet messages. Selena had a lot of nice things to say about Justin in interviews and Justin had become close to her again after she received a kidney transplant. It seemed like they were working out as friends and the bad blood had dissipated.
November 2017- March 2018
Big surprise, they’re back together again. Selena was seen cheering Justin on at a hockey game while wearing his jersey. They had stayed together for a couple of months but broke up once again, having a large influence from Selena’s mom (remember what I said about trusting your mom. See, celebrities do it too)
June 2018
Justin and Selena had seemed like they finally moved on from each other. Justin and Hailey Baldwin had rekindled their old relationship after seeing each other at a church conference in Miami. They got married five months after (that’s really quick but ok) in a courthouse ceremony and then had a second wedding in October of 2019. Coincidentally, after that wedding, Selena released “Lose you to love you” right after, almost as if it was a goodbye letter to Justin.
Ok, that was just the timeline of their relationship. What does that have to do with the Hailey vs. Selena feud? Well, to fans it seemed like Hailey was doing many different things that Selena had already done. That along with cryptic lyrics in Justin’s songs made fans speculate if the couple were really happy with one another. The Tattoos
Selena Gomez had gotten a tattoo for her little sister, Grace. It’s a little “g” in cursive writing, behind her ear. Fans noticed that Hailey had gotten the same tattoo of the letter, in the same font, in the same place after Selena had gotten hers.
