When thinking about my junior year of college I never expected to have a ring on my hand, be planning a wedding, and being in a “long-distance” relationship. Now by long-distance I only mean about an hour and a half but when trying to plan a wedding that’s a long way!!
On August 1, 2019, my boyfriend got down on one knee and said the words that every girl dreams of hearing. In the moment I was laughing and crying and hugging everyone I could. But when it all set in the panic of “how in the world am I going to do this” also set in.
But let me just tell you….it has been so much more fun than I could have ever expected! The wedding planning mindset does not come and go but its a constant reel rolling in the back of my mind. This makes boring classes so much fun!
I could be sitting in class trying to learn about public relations principles or business plans but in reality I’m thinking things like this:
“What kind of dress do I want?”
“What color bridesmaids dresses would look good?”
“Have I gotten an email back from the venue?”
This is the type of daydreaming I live for.
Not only have I noticed that my daydreaming during class has changed, but there are a few other things in my life that have changed due to the fact that I am getting MARRIED!
1. I spend an exponential amount of time on Pinterest
Now don’t get me wrong, I loved Pinterest before I got engaged, but now it has gotten a little out of hand. My wedding board went from about 60-70 pins to around 250 pins after just a few weeks.
My goal is not to have that “Pinterest Perfect” wedding but its great way to gather some different and new ideas.
2. My friends might know more about my wedding than my parents
My parents are definitely a HUGE help when it comes to planning my wedding because you know….they’ve done it before! But seeing as I live at school rather than home my friends ask me all the same questions but I have more time to think about it and talk it through. So by the time I get home we have already decided what colors we like or what kind of bouquet I want or what kind of tie my fiancé is going to wear.
I have to constantly remind myself that I have to fill my parents in on some of the decisions that we have made when away from home.
3. Everyone wants to look at my hand
Typically when you see someone you have seen in a while, you go straight for the hug. But no. Now whenever I see someone…they go straight for my left hand. Now, I love showing off my ring because it is absolutely GORGEOUS but also I’m a hugger. So I want to hug my friends.
It took some getting used to but now I have learned that my hugs come second to the ring so I have become more patient.
I LOVE being an engaged college student and I LOVE my fiancé but if I’m being honest it has taken some getting used to. I would never change a thing.
Maybe one of my next articles will be called “The Life of a Married College Student.” ;)
