Music is one of the only things getting me through college right now, so I hold it pretty closely. I consider myself to be really open to new music and genres, so I listen to pretty much everything.

That being said, there’s a couple albums I’ve been listening to on repeat lately that I feel obligated to share.

Portals – melanie martinez

Guys, Melanie has been a staple part of my life since middle school.

She just released her newest album, “Portals”, last week, and it’s magical.

She explained that this new album is the last in the Crybaby trilogy, examining the space between life and death.

If you’ve seen her film, “K-12”, this album is a continuation of the story, finally closing the chapter on Melanie’s well-known character.

“All of the songs on this album are based on past-life-regression therapy books I’ve been reading for a few years now. All of them disguised with earthly themes for double/triple meaning, to create a frequency for humans to relate to while still here on Earth.” – Melanie via social media

As someone who was a big fan of her last two albums, this one is a big jump from her usual music.

I love how she’s experimenting with new sounds and aesthetics. I’ve been listening to it on repeat for the past week.

My current favorites are “The Contortionist“, “Tunnel Vision“, and “Battle of the Larynx” (If I had to choose… it changes almost every day).

She also just released the deluxe version, so catch me listening to it all over again.

Emails i can’t send – sabrina carpenter

If there’s any pop artist I love, it’ll always be Sabrina Carpenter. She came out with her newest album not too long ago, with her song “Nonsense” taking over TikTok.

Sabrina wrote this album compiled of things that have happened to her, whether it be good or bad. The title comes from emails she sent to herself, but never sent.

“A lot of it came from the humor side of things. I would be reading it and being like, ‘Oh my god, that’s so terrible, how did I say that?’. Then it would turn into a song. Most of the songs that happened were me going like, ‘Oh my god that’s terrible I can’t say that,’ and then I say it, but for three minutes.” – Sabrina during her interview with Teen Vogue

I loved this album since the minute it came out. My favorites on this album are currently “Already Over“, “Feather“, and “Fast Times” (also, hard to choose just three).

Good thing we stayed – julia wolf

Julia Wolf is a smaller artist, but this album hooked me. Something about the sound of her voice and the music go together so well, I really loved it.

“This album is a storytelling of the days of eating lunch alone, too afraid to admit music was my passion, to years of dead ends and trying to get noticed, to finally gaining some traction and making music a full-time career. It goes through the obstacles you face when being a shyer person and going after big dreams and why it’s so important to push past your self-doubt and keep going.” – Julia for Wonderland Magazine

Julia almost gave up on music, but kept pushing and finally got where she is today. Personally, I’m very thankful for that.

My favorites from this album are “Get Off My”, “Dracula”, and “Hinge Boy“.

If you haven’t heard of her, I recommend to give it a listen.

I listen to a lot more music than the stuff I just listed, but these are my current favorites.

Some honorable mentions:

– “Let’s Start Here.” – Lil Yachty

– “Dreamland” – COIN

– “Birthdays in July” – Leith

Thanks everyone for listening- hope my rambling can convince you to listen!
