This past Sunday night, Hollywood’s biggest names in comedy came together for a 3-hour live television special full of laughs and nostalgia. Here are some of the best moments.
1. Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake’s epic “History of SNL” rap intro.
How can you not love these two? Friendship goals, am I right?
2. The recreation of “Celebrity Jeopardy.”
If this isn’t one of your favorite sketches, are you even a fan of Saturday Night Live?
3. The never-before-seen audition tapes.
This was probably one of the coolest parts of the special. It gave us a chance to see our favorite cast members at their most vulnerable, before they were famous. There were also a few familiar faces on the tapes that didn’t make it onto the cast, like Stephen Colbert, Kevin Hart, and Zach Galifianakis.
4. Bradley Cooper making out with Betty White.
Enough said.
5. Tina Fey, Amy Poehler and Jane Curtin reuniting.
The ladies of SNL took back the Weekend Update desk, and it was everything.
6. The (brief) return of Stefon.
Although his appearance was short-lived, the night just would not have been complete without our favorite New York City correspondent.
7. Melissa McCarthy’s impression of Matt Foley.
She definitely nailed Chris Farley’s legendary motivational speaker character, including an epic desk smash.
8. The incredible montage of our favorite musical sketches.
Garth and Kat made an unprepared visit, Operaman sang a special anniversary song, Derek Stevens continued to “Chop Broccoli”, and the Blues Brothers stole the show as per usual.
Saturday Night Live has been breaking the rules of comedy every Saturday night for 40 years. Their anniversary reunion was just a reminder of why the show is the one of the longest running television shows in history. Here’s to SNL and to 40 more years of brilliant comedy.
