What made you choose UW-Madison?
Probably the campus and the comradery — being close to the two lakes and being surrounded by all of the school spirit are amazing.
What made you apply to the School of Journalism and Mass Communication?
I’ve always wanted to be a reporter; but when I joined Ad-Club (Advertising Club), I realized I wanted to do advertising. I thought the J-School would be the perfect fit for me.
What are you involved in on campus?
I’m in Ad-Club, and I officiate intramural volleyball and am a scorekeeper for intramural basketball. I’m also in STLF (Students Today, Leaders Forever), and this year, I’m bus core for STLF.
What is STLF?
It’s a student organization with whom you can volunteer on or off-campus. The big selling point, though, is the cross-country service trip, “Pay It Forward Tour.” You hop on the bus with 40 other students, and you stop in 6 cities in 9 days. You tour around and do a service project in every city; and at night, you do bonding activities to get to know each other and just hang out.
Â
What is your role as bus core?
My role is to plan out the route, the tourism, the service and the housing in each city.
What inspired you to join STLF?
I wanted to make use of my spring break in a more productive way, so I thought helping others would make me happier than the “typical college spring break trip.” I also wanted to make new friendships with people here in Madison.
What’s your favorite part about it?
The entire thing! The experience you have with the other people on your bus is amazing. You’re strangers at the beginning of the trip, and you become family at the end.
Where are you going this spring break?
We’re going to Lorain, Ohio, Cheektowaga, New York, Saratoga Springs, New York, Boston, Massachusetts, Long Island City, New York, and, finally, Washington D.C.
Tell me a fun fact about yourself!
I was in a University of Minnesota commercial, but IÂ decided to come to Wisconsin. Ha, go Badgers.
