For those of you who aren’t familiar with the term “GDI” or “geed” for short, it is a commonly used expression thrown around Greek life that stands for “god damn independent” a.k.a someone unaffiliated with Greek life. It could be used for both males and females, but mainly, it is a term created by boys about boys.
Men in fraternities are often sensationalized through movies and television shows, and girls sometimes get caught up with this idea, and only date and hook up within the Greek circle. However, here are some reasons why you should date a GDI:
1. They make up 90% of UW-Madison’s campus
So.many.options.
2. They’re mysterious
You’ve probably never seen them before, so you don’t know exactly what they’re about, and every girl loves a little mystery.
3. You’re going out of your comfort zone
It’s always good to step outside the box every once in a while, and college is all about trying new things.
4. You gain a whole new circle of friends
You’ll get to not just meet him and get to know him, but also his girl and guy friends.
5. Drama-free!
You don’t have to worry about the Greek “politics” (who has hooked up with him before, which friends of his you’ve hooked up with before…etc.)
6. You won’t have to compete with his brothers
Hanging out at a frat house with 30+ males can be overwhelming at times.
7. You’ll be able to make time for each other
Being involved in Greek life can come with a lot of weekly obligations that overlap, something you wouldn’t have to worry about with a GDI, making one on one time easier to schedule.
8. They can introduce you to some cool new spots
It’s easy to get stuck in a bubble, but odds are they have ventured out and discovered some uncharted bars and restaurants they can show you.
9. Jake Gyllenhaal was a GDI
If it increases your chances of finding a Jake Gyllenhal, why wouldn’t you do it?
10. …and so was Anders Holm!
UW-Alum. Attractive, funny, successful…Need I say more?
So although college is often equated with fraternity boys, I encourage you girls to also look beyond the Greek letters. You could miss out on someone you would totally bring home to mom.
