Definitive Ranking of Halloween Candy

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wisconsin chapter.

As soon as the calendar turns to October, there’s one thing we can all be sure of: Halloween is near. While everyone gets excited over everything Halloween has to offer, there’s one very important piece that college students usually overlook: the candy selection. No fear, here’s a definitive ranking of the 23 most popular Halloween candies, all waiting to be eaten by you this October.

#23. Candy Corn

This is truly the most iconic Halloween candy, however no one actually likes it.

#22. Licorice

No one likes this candy either, especially Black Licorice. Also, don’t even get me started on Red Vines.

#21. Almond Joys

Coconut & almonds? It sounds healthy, and no amount of chocolate can make me feel like I’m eating Halloween candy while eating these.

#20. Whoppers

This candy is average but doesn’t stick out, nor is it all that memorable. Plus, biting into the Whopper doesn’t always feel the greatest on your teeth.

#19. Hershey’s Kiss

Honestly, there’s nothing special about this, and the foil wrapper is annoying.

#18. Milk Duds

True to their name, there is nothing worse than having these stuck in your teeth. Bonus point for the chocolate & caramel combination though.

#17. Tootsie Rolls

They’re little brown chocolate logs, and there’s nothing exciting about them.

#16. Crunch Bars

It’s weird that so many popular Halloween candies are chocolate.

#15. Dots

There must be something about candy coming in little yellow boxes that just has an attraction to getting stuck in your teeth.

#14. Sweetarts

Tasty, but the amount that you get in a little pack (two?!) just doesn’t suffice.

#13. Smarties

This candy is the older, more mature cousin of the Sweettart.
#12. Kit-Kats

Gimme a break, these are pretty popular.

#11. Milky Way

Milky Ways are often forgotten about but still so good. The fun sized bars just don’t cut it, though.

#10. Twix

Lost a lot of the appeal when they started the whole ‘right/left’ Twix campaign.

#9. M&Ms

A classic: all the flavors taste the same, but a little part of you still believes they all taste kind of different.

#8. Snickers

Honestly, the constant commercials kind of ruin the excitement of this candy.

#7. Butterfinger

Let’s hope this one doesn’t slip through our fingers.

#6. Three Musketeers

There’s nothing better than a creamy, chocolate nougat.

#5. Caramel Apple Suckers

Let’s be real here, I wait all year long for these suckers to finally come out.

#4. Sour Patch Kids

First they’re sour, then they’re sweet.

#3. Skittles

Let’s just all collectively admit that we eat them the same way: by color.

#2. Starburst

Bonus points if the two-pack contains two pink starbursts.

#1. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups

I don’t think I’ve ever met a more winning combination—nothing goes together better than peanut butter and chocolate.

Halloween is the perfect time to indulge in all things candy. Which one is your favorite?
