E-Sencha-lly Bliss

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wisconsin chapter.

I remember my first time like it was yesterday. It was cold outside, and I was anxious, nervous, definitely excited, and very overwhelmed. I felt a little pressured because I knew my friends were doing it already. When it was my turn, I didn’t know what to say or do. So I asked, “Do you have any recommendations?”

Cue my obsession with Sencha ever since. If you aren’t familiar, Sencha Tea Bar is located on State Street, right across from Which Wich and next door to Dragon-I. This cozy little spot on state, formerly known as Steepery, is my haven. If you’re looking for a new after-dinner treat, study spot, creative corner, or coffee date, Sencha’s got you covered.

How Sencha works:

Step 1: Decide if you want hot, iced, or shake.

Step 2: Pick a tea – they have a book with hundreds to choose from, but I usually stick to the basics or check the season specials.

Step 3: The fun part! You can add bubbles/tapioca balls/pearls/“boba”-whatever-you-call-them or jellies in fun, fruity flavors of your choosing!

Step 4: (The fun part 2.0) Also optional, but gloriously satiating
adding flavor(s)!  Here’s where you can choose to add flavors to your tea concoction. Some choices include vanilla, almond, kiwi, and so on
but don’t worry, this list is not nearly as long as the tea selections.

Step 5: Chill and wait while the Sencha baristas steep your tea to perfection.

The first drink I ordered is called the ‘Golden Snitch’ – a tea called ‘Amazon Spice’ infused with banana, vanilla and a little honey to top it off.

To sum up a rant that could go on for hours and for all you Sencha newbies, here are some quick tips to ensure the enjoyment of your Sencha expedition:

  1. Ask the staff for a recommendation. They’re so knowledgeable and always make the best combinations for your cravings!
  2. If you want to get something less sweet, they’ll put less sugar in it!
  3. Sencha is almost always on the Hooked app, where you can get deals like 20% off, a free size upgrade, or free bubbles just for showing them the app.

Also is it just me, or does drinking tea make you feel like a queen?!
