Healthy Tips to get Spring Break Ready

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wisconsin chapter.

It’s finally March, and that means only one thing: the countdown to spring break has begun! I know what some of you are thinking—Wasn’t it just Valentines day? One minute you’re sitting with your girls drinking wine and gorging on chocolate, and then all of a sudden spring break is two weeks away and you’re nowhere near that desired beach bod.

If you’re one of the lucky ones escaping this seemingly endless winter here in Madison for someplace warm, here are some tips to get your body spring break ready!

Water, water, water!- Of all the ways to cleanse your body, water is the most effective way to do it. Not sure how much water you’re supposed to drink per day? Just remember the 8 by 8 rule—eight 8 oz. glasses of water a day.

(Harry Styles drinks water, so you should too)

Stop the midnight munchies- It’s Friday night and you’ve come home after celebrating being done with midterms in true badger fashion. You’re in the middle of downing some water when you see it, staring at you from the shelf—a box of thin mints. Well, one cookie won’t kill me. Another one wouldn’t be so bad wither. I’ve already got a second one in my hand, might as well grab a third…I think we all know how this ends. One easy way to slim down before spring break is to avoid the late night snacks after a night out.

Turn down for what break– While it can be tempting to participate in Margarita Mondays, Tipsy Tuesdays, Wine Wednesdays, Thirsty Thursdays (let’s face it, here in Madison we can designate any day to drinking), save some of that partying for break! Aside from the fact that you’ll be eliminating all those empty calories, you also won’t find yourself destroying that box of thin mints at one in the morning.

Cut the crap- In these last couple weeks before spring break, try to swap processed foods for whole foods. Processed foods have all the calories with almost none of the nutrients. Avoid the Ramen noodles, fruit snacks, and crackers—if it comes in a box or a wrapper, it’s likely processed.

Follow these simple steps for the next two weeks and you’ll be ready to live it up on the beach this break.
