The Her Campus team HIIT the gym hard over the weekend at Kamps in Madison! Yup, that’s right: HIIT with two “I”s! Kamps is a new workout studio in Madison that specializes in HIIT workouts—or “High Intensity Interval Training.” Sound hard? It was, but we pushed through! Â
We were all super nervous before going to our class because we heard that the workouts were intense. But, it was a nervous excitement to try new a new workout class. The studio was sleek and expansive, surrounded by mirrors on the walls, a ring of treadmills and a workout area in the middle. We were greeted by Kamps trainer Brittany (@fiit_briitt on Instagram) who was really encouraging the whole time and got us excited for our first full-body HIIT workout. Each of us had our own low-impact treadmill and Brittany guided us how to modulate the cool, high-tech setting. By the end of our warmup, we were already sweating and out of breath, but Brittany was playing BeyoncĂ© and that kept us pumped for the rest of the class. Bey didn’t get that body sitting around all day!Â
After the warmup, we HIIT it hard! We lifted weights, lunged until our legs were sore, and revved up our heart rate alternating between cardio-filled treadmill intervals and strength-based floor workouts of squats, planks and tricep dips. Brittany kept us encouraged through the workout with a pump-up playlist! At the end of the class, we put the high-tech treadmill on a setting that lets you control the speed with your body and physically push the belt yourself; you move as far as the labor you can put into it. That got the last of our energy out and we finished the class with a series of cool-down stretches.
After the workout, we were equally tired and energized from such a great and thorough class that worked every muscle in our bodies. We’d recommend this workout to anyone looking for a high-energy workout that gets you in your target heart-rate zone and pushes you to the limit. Kamps is great because you’re working hard while still having fun and getting those endorphins flowing!
The class we took was a full-body workout, but Kamps offers classes that focuses on upper-body, lower-body, arms, and abs/core. Checkout Kamps’s website to try it out too!
