How to Respond When Someone Says “I Love You”

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wisconsin chapter.

Valentine’s Day is approaching, and with all the new relationships that have been developing since cuffing season, there may be a few too many people rushing into saying “I love you.” However, don’t be afraid to stray from the expected “I love you, too,” especially if you’re not feeling it. I mean, boys are the ones who scold us for being basic in the first place, am I right?

  1. “I love… cake.”

I mean, at least it’s truthful.

  1. “I love lamp.”

Maybe this one doesn’t hit home as much as cake, but at least you were two for three on the “I love you” script.

  1. “I love YouTube.”

If you say it fast enough, it sounds like, “I love you, too.” You’re welcome.

  1. “Thanks.”

Show him your appreciation.

  1. Just mouth the words and opt for a cute hand signal instead.

This will definitely help you connect on a spiritual level.

  1. “I know.”

If Han Solo can say this to Princess Leia, you can too.

On the other hand, you could actually respond with, “I love you, too,” like Chuck & Blair; but I’m pretty sure they only do that in the movies.
