How to Wear: Neon

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wisconsin chapter.

It’s a bit ridiculous how much I’m over winter. Seriously, it can go away anytime now. I’m sure most of you can attest. So I’ve decided if the sun won’t melt that snow, I’m going to have to create some sunlight of my own (please excuse the cheesiness). Bright neon colors are popping up everywhere for spring 2013. Here’s some ways to stand out without looking like you’re headed to an 80’s party!

Outfit #1

Lime green is all over – I just bought two shirts this weekend in this color! It can be a pretty bold piece in an outfit, though. So try toning it down with some relaxed boyfriend jeans and black accents.

Outfit #2

Dust off those neon jeans from last spring because they’re still in! I like this light neon coral color since it’s little bit subtler than pure neon. Pair it with neutrals and you’ve got a sweet and girly outfit. If you’re feeling bold, add a neon scarf for even more color!

Outfit #3

Neon heels are on my wish list for the spring. With black jeans, a neutral peplum top, and a neon statement necklace, all eyes will be on you. But for a good reason – the neutral colors tone the neon down enough to keep you from looking like a 80s queen.

Outfit #4

A neon pattern is a great way to wear this trend. In this sweater, the neon pink stands out but just enough to keep it classy. Grab your black leggings, combat boots, and you’re good to go.

Outfit#5

If you’re feeling outgoing, try color blocking neon pieces. I couldn’t find quite what I wanted on Polyvore.com (where I create these outfits) to show this look. I found this from refinery29.com. I love the colors!

Hope you find a way to wear some neon this week! Let’s show the weather we’re ready for spring! Oh, and I came across this a few days ago. If you’re feeling extra bold this weekend, try some neon makeup and nails!

It's my first year at UW-Madison and I couldn't be happier. With school, friends, writing, tweeting, pinning, online shopping, eating, drinking coffee, sleeping, LAUGHING, and loving - life is bueno. And, I mean, I create outfits and write about them on one of the greatest websites for college ladies. How could it get any better?
