Fall can be overwhelming at times, with the onset of classes and extracurriculars that seem to happen all at once after a laidback summer. Don’t get too wrapped up in school to miss out on some of the great fall events and activities happening in the Madison area! Here are a few you won’t want to miss:
Â
- Dane County Farmers Market: If you didn’t make it to the farmer’s market on the capitol square this summer, you still have time! It is held every Saturday from 6 am- 2 pm through November 9th. Treat yourself to some fresh produce, cheese, or baked goods, after living off of the cafeteria or take out food for weeks.
Â
- Madison Magazine’s Festival of Food: From September 23-29, you have the opportunity to visit various locations throughout Madison and sample some of the most creative food concoctions. Each day features a different tasting; one that caught my attention is the “Savory, Sweet Science Taste” held on September 25th at the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery. It features dishes such as “liquid nitrogen ice cream” and “fusion cookies.” Visit here for more information.
- The Great Pumpkin Run: If you enjoy being active and having fun in the process, you won’t want to miss this event! You can participate in the 5K or challenge yourself with the “tough pumpkin” option. This run takes places on September 14th, and involves weaving through a corn maze and running down various scenic trails. Following the race is complimentary apple cider and pumpkins, as well as a variety of fun fall activities. The race takes place in Poynette, Wisconsin, so transportation to the event is needed. You can register the day of the race, or online at www.thegreatpumpkinrun.com/?event=madison.
Â
- Bubble Music Festival: From October 3-6, local artists will be performing at various venues throughout downtown Madison. The full lineup of artists will be coming out soon. Any interested artists can submit music on the official website, www.bubblemusicfestival.com. Her Campus will be featuring more about this festival when specific locations and artists are released!
Â
- WUD Film: WUD film will be presenting The Great Gatsby at the Union South Marquee from Thursday, September 12- Sunday, September 15th. If you missed seeing this movie in theatres, take advantage of the free screening of this timeless classic. Plus, who doesn’t want to see Leonardo DiCaprio on the big screen?!
Â
- Wingra & Brittingham Boats: The Madison lakes will be frozen over before we know it, so doing water activities while you still can is a must! Rent a paddleboard, canoe, kayak, or paddleboat and enjoy a day in the sun while the weather lasts. Wingra & Brittingham boats are both still open for the season on Saturday and Sundays. Wingra boats closes for the season on September 22nd, and Brittingham on October 1st. All water activities are first come first serve!Â
