Pairing Up Essentials: Look for Less

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wisconsin chapter.

The top says: I’m warm and friendly.

The bottom says: I’m sexy too.

This is called effortlessly chic. A look that often conveys spending little time or thought on it, as if beauty just oozes out of you.

In reality perfecting this look often requires a lot of time and thought put into it, but on the bright side it does not meaning spending a fortune.

In fact this look can probably be achieved by things already in your closet.

Always a staple, a slightly slouchy sweater is your best fall friend.

Less than $20 at Forever 21 it can be dressed up or down.

Polka dots, stripes, or other patterns can tone down and make an oversized sweater seem more youthful. This polka dot sweater is only $19.80 and would pair great with jeans and some flats.

Black scarf? You can find one anywhere. Forever 21 offers a knit black scarf for only $12.80

Now that we’ve taken care of the your playful, let’s talk about the edgy bottom.

Most college women have at least one black bondage skirt, if not H&M almost always have them for under $15. Or for a bit more structure this ASOS skirt is on sale $21.

Now living in Wisconsin doesn’t make sheer tights particularly practical. Urban Outfitters offers fleece lined tights for $18, a wise investment for any lady wanting to wear skirts or dresses during the cold winter months.

Shoes are another area I’d suggest splurging in, as they do take quite a bit more abuse then your shirts or pants. When your budget is tight though slouchy black boots are easy to come by, UrbanOg sells these tassel ones for under $30.

With that you’re all set. Basics that won’t bust your budget and you’ll wear over and over again.
