It’s time to face the fact that the season of fall has come to a close, and the winter weather in Madison has begun. The cold, dry winter weather soaks up all the moisture in your skin, so here are a few tips on how to prep your skin for winter:

Invest in some lotion: Winter air makes your skin really dry, so go buy some lotion and apply every day! Once in the morning, and once in the night is best. It’s not just your face and legs that need lotion, your whole body needs it too!

Don’t take too hot of a shower: Taking a hot shower may seem like a great way to warm up on a cold winter day, but taking too hot of a shower will dry out your skin even more, so don’t turn up the heat all the way.

Put on lotion right out of the shower: Just lightly pat yourself dry with a towel out of the shower and put on lotion all over immediately. Putting on lotion over your wet skin will help to seal in the moisture.

Don’t forget about SPF: Just because you can’t feel the sun bearing down on you doesn’t mean it’s not there! The sun can still hurt your skin in the winter, so invest in a face lotion or makeup with SPF in it!

Lip balm: Your lips need moisture too! I must have about a million containers of lip balm to protect lips from the icy winter. If you’re not a fan of chap sick, try to put some on once a day right before you go to sleep.
