You’re probably thinking, “I love rain! It’s so relaxing, and thunderstorms are so fun to watch.” Exactly, rain is not that bad when you’re inside and can witness nature from the comfort of your room; but being outside in the rain is a whole different story. Getting caught in a rainstorm sucks. I try to avoid it as much as possible, but I’m also not going to stay at my lecture any longer than I have to just because it is storming.
Raincoats are a blessing, and whoever created the raincoat that can be stored in its own pocket is a genius. However, raincoat hoods do nothing unless you put in 100 percent effort to keep it covering your head. If you’re running or if the wind whips it off, the hood’s most likely not going to stay up.
An umbrella is my other favorite rain gear, but it causes such a hassle — R.I.P. to the inside-out umbrella victims. I always end up accidentally poking someone or letting water run off onto an unfortunate soul who happens to be walking by me. Don’t get me started on the awkward moments when I struggle to close my umbrella and end up looking like a fool while doing so — especially when I’m trying to get on a bus. The worst is when you don’t check the forecast; and at the end of class, amid a torrential downpour, you realize you have left your rain gear back in your room all the way across campus.
God forbid, if the 80 zooms past you and hits a giant puddle right in front of you, you’re soaked. When it’s raining, only the chosen ones find an empty seat on the 80.
Glasses are a special struggle. But, you can always invest in glasses with windshield wipers on them! I’m not sure if they come in prescription lenses or not, though.
When it rains, it’s gloomy and dark out. It just makes it much harder to get out of bed, and any prior motivation inevitably drops to an all-time low. Even worst, rain eventually turns to snow…
May the odds be ever in your favor, and may you not have to go out in the rain or a blizzard anytime soon.
