Spoon: UW’s New Food Magazine

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wisconsin chapter.

Food is one subject any college student can easily bond over. Whether it is the main topic of conversation during sorority rush, your go-to activity after a night out, or your favorite item to pin on pinterest, talking about food, looking at food porn, and actually eating food simply never gets old.

Spoon, a student-run food magazine originating at Northwestern University has now launched at our very own UW-Madison campus. This online magazine is directed specifically to college students and dedicated to making food more than just sustenance. Their mission is to open college students’ eyes to cooking and everyday food in a way that is relatable, accessible, entertaining and delicious.

“Spoon is important because it allows students to learn easy and healthy ways to cook in their college homes and discover new restaurants that they may not have heard of!” said Jodi Sherman, member of the PR and marketing team at Spoon.

Spoon is able to provide students with the tools they need to eat well at home and in the dining halls, seek out new restaurants, maintain a healthy lifestyle and, more importantly, care about the food they eat.

This online magazine consists of recipes, a “food for thought” blog, restaurants, events on campus, and best of all: food porn. All of the dishes posted on the website are made and photographed by UW-Madison students. Since they are college students themselves, they create and adapt recipes to suit college kid’s needs—Seriously, what could be better?

Perri Oringer, member of the PR and Marketing team at Spoon stated, “I think UW students would be most interested in the restaurant section of the website because they have access to tons of amazing restraurants in Madison and the staff of Spoon will give honest reviews of these restaurants and make sure their fellow students are hitting the right spots!”

Along with Facebook, Pinterest, Tumblr, Instagram and Twitter…Spoon can now be added to your list of websites to browse. For more information check out their online magazine and “like” their Facebook page and tweet them at their twitter @uwspoon
