Do you have that one perfect study spot you find yourself walking to every time you need to crank out some work? Maybe your study habits say more about your personality than you realized!Â
If you’re favorite spot is…
Memorial Union: You’re outdoorsy!
Whether it is winter, spring, summer, or fall, the Memorial Union is the best place to study on campus and also feel close to nature. Studying on the Terrace in the summer is the perfect place to catch some sun, sip on your iced green tea, and get some reading done to the sounds of seagulls and waves. In the winter, sitting near the windows overlooking the frozen lake probably helps you focus deeper into your studies. You’re probably most drawn to the Memorial Union because even when you’re too stressed or busy to take the time for a run, it allows you time to be outside. Not to mention, after a day spent with Hoofers on the lake, it’s convenient to be able to study in the same place.
Memorial Library: You’re traditional!
Memorial Library is one of the most classic study spots on campus, and you probably enjoy the old wooden tables and private reading areas. Memorial Library is kept quiet and discourages the use of cell phones, to minimize distractions to you or others intently working. It’s nice to step back into a simpler time without so many distractions; although, sometimes you admittedly get distracted by the piles of books, and find yourself spending all day reading Jane Austin, instead of Macroeconomics. Your study drink of choice is probably Earl Grey tea, but you prefer bringing it made from home, instead of getting it from any of the crowded coffee shops on State. You’re a hard worker and you appreciate the history of UW-Madison–one of the main reasons you’re so proud to go to this school.
College Library: You’re motivated!
You are very driven and focus a lot of time on your studies. You not only strive to be the best you can be in every aspect of your life, but you strive to be the best, period. College is constantly packed with motivated students who inspire you to keep going, as you tear through piles of work. You’re probably chugging a triple espresso to get you through six chapters of reading, two online quizzes, four conference calls, and an internship interview with just enough energy left to run a few miles before the end of the day. Although some may call you “high-strung,” you understand it’ll all be worth it when they’re calling you “boss.”
Union South: You’re social!
Union South is your favorite study spot because you can hardly ever go there without bumping into someone you know! Ok, admittedly you probably end up spending more time chatting than studying, but that makes the time much more bearable! While studying, you usually skip the caffeinated drinks, but find it almost impossible to avoid getting a scoop or two of Babcock. Union South has plenty of different seating areas (that are usually full), but lucky for you, you almost always find people that you can squeeze in with. You’re bold and don’t mind approaching someone in one of your discussions to ask them a question about the homework, so Union South works as your access to unlimited study groups!
Home: You’re Shy!
Although you know you’re awesome, you don’t see the need to haul all of your homework somewhere to study, when you can get just as much done at your apartment! The thought of trying to find a quiet space somewhere new might freak you out a little, and you do just as well at your kitchen table instead. Plus, while you’re at home you don’t have to spend extra money on food or coffee when a craving strikes! You are probably close with all of your roommates and enjoy whenever one of them is around to study with you, but you don’t see any need to expand when you’re happy just the way it is!
Coffee Shop: You’re Artsy!
Nothing gets your creative juices flowing like a coffee shop, with the perfect aesthetic and the comfiest chairs. Only at your favorite coffee shop can you truly feel productive and somehow satisfied while studying. You enjoy the numerous drink options on the menu and your goal is try something new every time, but a chai latte is your go-to on days when you really have to buckle down. It’s hard for you to concentrate when you’re in a library because the silence makes you feel claustrophobic. You’re much better off at a coffee shop with a killer indie-rock playlist and the gentle murmur of friends catching up over a joe.
No matter where your favorite study spot is or what it may or may not say about you, we’re just proud of you for trying to study.Â
