Ellen Degeneres has special guests on her shows all the time, and like most talk shows, they’re usually celebrities. But something was different when Bernie Sanders, one of the Democratic candidates for the 2016 presidential election, came on the show.
First, a little background on Mr. Sanders. He is a 74-year-old from Vermont. According to Bernie Sanders website, “He was elected to the U.S. Senate after 16 years as Vermont’s sole congressman in the House of Representatives. Bernie is now serving his second term in the U.S. Senate after winning re-election in 2012 with 71 percent of the vote.” He was mayor in his hometown in Vermont. Since he was elected in Congress, he has “focused on the shrinking middle class and growing gap between the rich and everyone else.” He has successfully passed more amendments than any other member of Congress. On October 14, 2015, Bernie was a guest on The Ellen Show, Ellen Degeneres’ talk show. According to Ellen, he “insisted on dancing, we didn’t make him do that” as he entered after Ellen introduced him.
Although “the Bernie” is already a dance move, Bernie Sanders has taken a whole new twist on what we may call “the Bernie.”
A few weeks later, Ellen did a follow up story on how she thought “the dancing went to his head” as Mr. Sanders released a music video of him replacing Drake in his “Hotline Bling” video. The original can be seen here.
Joking, Ellen calls Bernie Sanders new video his “new campaign to appeal to young voters.” Although she doesn’t comment explicitly on the video, she does laugh and ends the segment saying “alright Hilary, your move.” Will there be a new strand of music videos from the 2016 presidential candidates? Only time will tell. The Ellen video can be seen here.
