What to Watch—Christmas Movie Edition

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wisconsin chapter.

The end of finals is finally (pun intended) in sight, and it’s time to move on from the stress of school and start reveling in the joy of Christmas. And what’s the best way to do that? By watching Christmas movies—duh.

With one week until Christmas, I’ve shared with you all my top seven favorite holiday movies of all time. In case counting is not your strong suit, that’s one for every day up until Christmas. And if you can’t find an hour and a half in your day to surround yourself with some holiday joy, well then “bah humbug” to you.

So come on HC readers: cozy up on the couch, grab the cookies or chocolate I know you have, and get in the Christmas spirit with one of these classics.

Home Alone

It doesn’t matter how old you are, there’s nothing funnier than a couple of middle-aged criminals being taken down by an 8 year-old.

The Santa Clause

All three movies are spectacular, but the first one takes the cake because Charlie is probably the cutest kid you will ever see.

The Polar Express

There is no way you watched this movie as a kid and didn’t put “one of Santa’s sleigh bells” on your Christmas list that year.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas

The animation version is a timeless classic, but there’s something about the Jim Carrey version that just makes it more entertaining the older you get.

Elf

You’d be hard-pressed to find a Christmas movie more quotable than this one, and it simply never gets old.

Love Actually

Equal parts sobbing and laughing. It’s like the “He’s just not that into you” and “Valentine’s Day” movies, but British, which means it’s way better.

Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town

If you’ve never seen any of the holiday Claymation movies, they’re spectacular. The “Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town” is my personal favorite and makes you feel like a kid on Christmas all over again.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, HC readers!
