If you want to feel seen and also pee your pants laughing, start with Glennon Doyle

My first encounter with Glennon Doyle was when I read her book Carry On, Warrior. I was hesitant to read this book because it seemed like it was just about parenting. But after my mom nagged me for long enough, I picked it up and gave it a try, and I am so glad I did. This book is Pulitzer Prize winner material (that is a little extreme, but it is amazing). Seriously, pee your pants funny. I don’t have any kids of my own, but the stories she tells of her own kids are absolute gold. She also offers a new way to look at the world, and I have not been the same since learning it. Not only is Glennon Doyle incredibly funny, she is incredibly wise and offers advice that is suitable for any age.

Her most famous saying comes from her third book, Untamed. She says, “we can do hard things.” This simple but powerful quote has traveled the world, impacting people all around. It is a quote that can be said in challenging moments, as it offers a bit of encouragement for the speaker. Glennon Doyle knows about hard things. As she tells in her book, she has overcome addiction, an eating disorder and has found love after a divorce from an affair. She is now married to soccer star Abby Wambach and has a lot to say about the hard times she faced.

Glennon, Abby and Glennon’s sister Amanda host the podcast We Can Do Hard Things, where they interview different people and talk about all the hard things. My favorite thing about this podcast is they don’t shy away from the ugly. They dive into the ugly. Have you ever thought that if people just started talking about all the hard things, the hard things would feel a little easier? That is exactly what this podcast does. Guests range from Melissa McCarthy to Sara Barielles to Alex Morgan. All of whom have so much to say and such amazing advice to give. Every single time I listen to this podcast, I walk away with a new way of looking at life. I also walk away with a sore stomach because I actually laugh out loud when listening to them.

I recommend Glennon Doyle’s work to anyone and everyone because she is one of those people that makes you feel less alone. She is intelligent, genuine, funny and wise. I know it may seem weird to start listening to a podcast by a mom, or reading books about parenting, but trust me when I say Glennon Doyle has something to offer everyone.
