Williamsburg, Virginia and Williamsburg, Brooklyn are two very different places. However, Williamsburg, Virginia just got cooler than Williamsburg, Brooklyn thanks to the William & Mary Global Film Festival, running this weekend from Thursday through Sunday
With big movie headlines like Beasts of the Southern Wild, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Tomboy, Turn Me on Dammit, and The Bones Brigade, this year’s Global Film Festival focusing on youth and film is sure to be a hit. Beasts of the Southern Wild has generated a lot of media buzz with a total of four Oscar nominations, including a nomination for best actress with the youngest nominee ever, and the film has already won four awards at the Cannes Film Festival.
If none of these films catch your eye, there are going to be exclusive Q&A sessions and demonstrations. The lead actress from the Norwegian film Turn Me on Dammit will be introducing the film and be answering questions. Some of our Q&As will be via Skype, like our interview with Tony Hawk and Mike McGill for The Bones Brigade screening (which will also be followed by a skateboard demonstration). And making a second appearance at the festival is Jared Gilman, star of Moonrise Kingdom.
The Global Film Festival also displays the talent of our very own William & Mary students with the 24 hour speed competition with the theme of Young Love. In addition to all of these main screening events, there will be parties, demonstrations, other fun events.
Interested in attending one of the many events of this years Global Film Festival? Tickets for the main events are $2 with a William & Mary Student ID, while all the other screenings are $1. If you would like to attend more than one screening, think about investing in a pass (the basic level pass is $15)!
