When I was packing for my study abroad adventure at the London College of Fashion I didn’t even bother to bring my Chi flat iron or curling iron. I had heard horror stories of British power outlets totally frying $200 hair straighteners (apparently the wattage is too high for some converters). So I decided I would rather “rough it” and let my ringlets run wild.
You also might have guessed, that the United Kingdom doesn’t carry the same hair products as good ol’ Target. You have to hunt down specialty stores, and even then, you are not guaranteed to find your favorite products. So I was happy to find a way to get beachy Victoria’s Secret waves without any additional products or heat. All you need is 1) your conditioner, 2) four hair binders, and 3) a good night’s rest. Here are the five, simple steps:
- At night time, wash your hair as normal with shampoo and conditioner. Once out of the shower, leave your hair wrapped up in a towel for 10 minutes, letting it dry as MUCH as possible. This is crucial for step 2.
- Let your hair down, and coat the ends (from your ear downwards) with a layer of conditioner. This will keep your waves intact all day long.
- Braid two [2”] chunks of hair near your forehead (1 on each side of your part). Secure the ends of these small braids with hair binders. It should look like you have antennas.
- Braid your hair in two, normal pigtail braids, including the small braids in the hair you pull into the larger pigtail braids. Secure the braids with hair binders, and sleep in them over night.
- By the morning, your hair should be completely dry. Gently take out the braids, and you’re set with a beautiful head of beachy waves—without using damaging hot tools and expensive hair products!
Thanks for reading, ladies! I hope you try out this hairstyle. It will be perfect for combating the Williamsburg humidity that is soon to be upon us. Heck, if it can tame my frizzy “fro” I’m sure it can do wonders for you.
