Spring Break—a time when some of us are heading to a tropical vacation, others on trips abroad to Europe, or service trips to underdeveloped nations, and the rest of us are heading back home. Like with any school break, this is a prime opportunity to make space and bring new things to make your wardrobe (and life) more weather appropriate. So here’s your guide to what to drag back on campus and what to drop off at home.
Drag
- Sandals – You can’t get away with running around campus in your shower flip-flops! Bring back a few pairs of sandals and flip-flops for the coming warm weather. I recommend a pair of comfy flip-flops, hopefully with a little bit of support, some nice leather slip-ons for everyday wear, some fun strappy sandals for going out, and maybe some gladiator sandals.
- Sundresses – This may be just my opinion, but I think we girls look the cutest in sundresses. There are few other ways to look cute, flirty, and hot all at once—especially not without needing any occasion outside of a warm day. Plus, it’s a lot easier to slip on a dress than it is to squeeze into your skinny jeans. Drag your sundresses back to your dorm—and some more hangers to accommodate them.
- Cardigans – some of you already have them on campus, others swapped them out for bulky sweaters when winter winds started blowing. Well, if you don’t have them already, it’s time to bring back your cardigans.
- Skirts – Bring your fun skirts! It’s going to be warm enough to show off your legs! Strive for skirts that hit you at your natural waist (the part of your torso that is the thinnest), and figure out the lengths that work for you. Never forget—skirts with movement are fun, breezy, and great for dates!
- Shorts – A spring-summer staple, you’ll regret it if you forget to drag your shorts back onto campus.
- Sunglasses – If you have a really cute pair and aren’t inclined to wait for a frat to start handing out those neon plastic ones at parties, make sure you grab your pair of these bad boys. Make sure you’re careful when packing them though! Sunglasses are notoriously breakable (and lose-able)!
- Bikini or other swimsuit – If you’re hitting the pool this spring semester, whether it’s for fun, to get fit, or to just lounge poolside, you’ll need to bring your swimsuit! Don’t forget your other pool (or beach) essentials like sunscreen, a beachy bag that can handle getting splashed, and a towel that isn’t too nice to coat in chlorine.
Drop
- Your sweater collection – Leave two or three sweaters on campus, but take the rest home. Sure, there’ll be some windy days, some rainy days, and maybe even a few cold days, but it’s not worth the closet space to keep your seven bulky sweaters in there.
- Heavy scarves, gloves, and winter hats – Face it, their time is over. Take them back home and leave cold weather in the dust! Make sure your careful about them though—I think we all know just how easy it is to lose one glove and not the other.
- Winter boots – Guys, the window for snow has long since faded. If you’re trying to keep wearing your boots into spring, you probably have too strong an Uggs addiction. (I know, I know, they’re soooo comfy!) Let it go, honey. It’s springtime and goodness knows those boots are taking up a considerable amount of space.
- Snow jackets – If you have any serious cold weather jackets, it’s time to take them home. Like I said, snow isn’t happening here in Williamsburg (as if we ever really get snow). Northfaces are fleeting, although the NoVA kids are going to want them whenever it gets below 60 degrees. Enjoy the naturally warm weather and let go of your heavy coats.
- Comforter – Now, some of you all have AC, but even if you do, consider dropping your big fluffy blanket and dragging a quilt from home instead so you don’t get too hot at night—and to cut down on your energy consumption.
