Fall Shoe Guide at William and Mary

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WM chapter.

It’s almost midnight on a gorgeous weekday night and instead of making a late night Wawa run with some friends, I’m stranded in my dorm room rubbing Neosporin all over my blistered feet.  I didn’t make a very good choice when I decided to splurge on these amazing Steve Madden boots to take with me for my first year in college, and after walking in them for one day I can’t take another step. I made the mistake of choosing style over practicality, which is definitely not good considering I live in the Botetourt Complex and I have to walk miles if I want to get anywhere. Now I understand why so many students invest in a solid pair of sneakers! However, style does not have to be sacrificed for comfort at William and Mary, especially when it comes to shoes. While I was limping around campus I noticed a lot of ladies strutting the brick walkways in some fashionable footwear, proof that it is possible to look good and still speed walk to get to class on time. As we move closer to the Fall season, new shoe trends are popping up, and I was lucky enough to run into a lot of them

The Wild West is being tamed this fall with some amazing varieties of cowboy boots! They are hot paired with shorts, skirts, jeans, and dresses… so you can practically wear them with your entire wardrobe. They are very durable and perfect for walking because of the small heel.

When you’re on your feet all day, flats are definitely the way to go. These leopard print ones are feisty, and the bow adds a feminine touch. For those of us who are vertically challenged, you can always find comfy flats that have a small wedge heel to give you some extra height.

Booties are a hot commodity this fall, and perfect walking around campus because most of them have a chunky heel so you feel more stable in your steps.

Sneakers are obviously the comfiest footwear for getting to class or clubs-so find a really flashy pair like this W&M student to keep your wardrobe pumped if you’re (literally) running late.

College prep is a timeless fashion that you can definitely pull of this fall. The new oxford is cool and easy for daytime strolls and they compliment cozy sweaters and cardigans.

Moccasins are making a comeback this fall. So many girls are wearing them because they are adorable and very easy to slip on and off. They’re great for class and those random late night escapades with friends. They are so chill, and give off a relaxed vibe- I always slip into mine before heading down for movie night in the lounge.

Thank you to all the girls who let me snag a photo of their amazing shoes! Look for them and other styles around campus, I definitely found inspiration for more practical college footwear. The last thing I want is another shoe-fail!
