2020 has been a miserable year for everyone. That said, the year at home gave people time to carefully curate outfits for the zoom screen and socially distanced outdoor gatherings. COVID gave people the opportunity to experiment with expression through outfit choices, even if such experimentation was done alone in your living room. I know we all rocked the “sweatpant-chic” look throughout this past year, but believe it or not, some people did manage to escape the loungewear fatigue. People will look back on 2020 as a year of low effort and dirty hair with some occasional fabulous winter style trends.

1. Long wool coats
I have always loved the long wool coat look. Nothing makes you feel more glamorous in cold weather than a beautiful coat. I had an inkling that this trend would appear sometime this year; however, it was really solidified with President Biden’s inauguration. First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman, and former First Lady Michelle Obama all appeared in bright wool coats on January 20th.Â

2. Flare Jeans Â
Flare jeans have been my favorite trend of 2020 by far. I have not yet been successful in my own personal quest for the perfect pair of flare jeans, but I absolutely love the branching out from the past strict skinny jean trend. Flare jeans with a pair of white sneakers is a totally cool trend that can add a fun look to anyone’s wardrobe.Â

3. Fuzzy cardigans
Fuzzy cardigans are the perfect compromise for lazy days. A fuzzy cardigan can be a casual look or a dressier one however you decide to pair it! These kinds of cardigans are great thrift store finds. The fuzzy sweater is a super accessible look for anyone who wants a comfy trendy look.

4. Layered Slip Dress
I never thought I would truly be a fan of this style trend, but I have been blown away by many looks I have seen on social media. While I know this trend really surfaced in 2016, it has continued full steam into 2020 and 2021. A maxi slip dress paired with a long sleeve undershirt is a stylish, casual or formal look. This is also a great look for the warmer winters!Â

5. MonochromeÂ
The single colored look has become a super popular style trend recently. While we have seen a lot of fun prints and textures this winter, the monochrome look is a great way to easily create a fashionable outfit. Monochrome looks emphasize each piece of clothing in a way that patterned fabrics can’t. Many mxn have really started to embrace the monochrome look this winter with a turtleneck and blazer.Â
