How to Celebrate Valentine’s Day Long-Distance Style

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WM chapter.

Valentine’s Day can be a downer if you live hundreds of miles away from your significant other. We’ve certainly all had that awful feeling at some point in our lives – that realization that wherever you seem to go, there are couples going gaga over each other with pink balloons and abnormally large teddy-bears. There’s no reason to feel sad, though, if you get creative and make sure that you and your long-distance cutie give each other lots of reasons to feel the love on Valentine’s Day.

Get crafty
Hearken back to those elementary school days when you cut hearts out of construction paper, piled on the ribbon, and glitter-glued a cute message to give to your crush. Make sure it’s in the mail a few days before the big day, label the envelope to only be opened on Valentine’s Day, and leave your significant other with a cute surprise that will make his day.

Have a Skype date . . . literally
Turn on your computer for a few hours that evening and have a romantic dinner together, complete with a certain food that you agree on having, some lit candles if you don’t live in a residence hall (or opt for fake ones if you have time to go to the dollar store,) and a bottle of wine if you’re of drinking age. Spend your time reminiscing about the best moments in your relationship and basically just acting like the goofy people that you both know you are.

Plan for a meet-up
If you live a decent distance from each other, try to schedule a day to reunite sometime in the near future so you can have a belated celebration on top of the one you had on Valentine’s Day. What could be better than two specific days set aside to be devoted to expressing how much you care about that one person you can be completely true, happy, and dorky with?
