Shake Up Your Spring: Trends for 2012

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WM chapter.

2012 is going to be all about making bold statements in a subtle way. Gone are the neon brights and super-graphic prints of 2011, and here are some softer yet just as fabulous trends for us all to fall in love with. Here are three of the biggest trends to look forward to in 2012:

1. Pastels
Pastels were huge on the spring runway. By taking the colorblocking that was so popular in 2011 and using it with more muted, soft hues, you can achieve a perfectly beautiful look with pieces you already have. Try mixing a mint green blazer and a lavender tee, or baby blue pants and a light pink cardigan.

2. Layered Neutrals
Another understated look that makes a big statement, this is a trend in which all the rules can be broken. Mixing tan, beige, gray, taupe, brown, gray, ivory, white, black and more has never looked so good. By using different shades of similar colors, you can create a multi-dimensional look in a subtle and sophisticated way.

3. Tangerine Tango
As Pantone’s color of 2012, this bold hue earns a special spot in this article. This fabulous color has been popping up everywhere and adds instant “wow factor” to any ensemble. Pantone knew that we needed a feisty yet versatile color for 2012, and boy, did we get it. I think we all have a great year in fashion to look forward to!
