WTW: Roses are Red, Violets are Blue

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WM chapter.

February 14th.  Valentine’s Day.  Where to begin? In my past experiences this day can go one of two ways.  It can be a blissful day of flowers, chocolate and handholding or a miserable night of sobbing, Kleenex and chugging wine from a box (don’t judge me).   Either way, it is definitely a roller coaster of emotions type of day. Luckily, anxiety over what to wear is an emotion you WON’T have to deal with on Monday.   Here is some WTW fashion advice for any and all occasions you find yourself in this Valentine’s Day.

Date Night:

Whether it’s your first date, your longtime boyfriend or just a hot guy on your hall, it is important to always dress to impress.  Don’t think that your boy is not checking you out because he is preoccupied with staring deeply into your eyes and sharing one single strand of spaghetti…he is. This strapless number from GUESS is the perfect dress for any dining experience.  The cut is extremely flattering and sexy, not to mention the floral print and ruffles give it a fun and flirty feel.  Add black sheer tights and a cardigan or cropped jacket for the chill factor, February weather is SO unpredictable.   Finally, I’d keep the accessories minimal.  Add sparkly studded earrings and black heeled ankle boots and I guarantee your man will be anxiously awaiting the special desert course.

Casual Chic:

There are tons of other flirty activities for couples to do besides going out to dinner. Some activities that immediately come to mind are moonlit strolls in colonial Williamsburg, the new Ashton Kutcher flick, or even bowling. This blouse from urban outfitters  is perfect for a more casual setting.  It’s the perfect mix of romantic, with the pin tuck detail, and laid back. Open a few buttons and tuck this top into a high waisted slimming black skirt.  I’d complete the outfit with flat riding boots and a red scarf for a festive pop of color.

Risky Business:

If you really want to WOW someone this Valentines Day, skip the outfit all together and go straight for what’s underneath.  Victoria’s Secret sheer babydoll dress in bright pink is a sexy something to slip on when the mood is right.  Light some candles, put on a smooth jazz playlist and voila! Instant romance!

All the single ladies put your hands up:

Single? Embrace it! Get a bunch of girls together and have a Katy Perry Dance Party.  Throw on some variation of an 80’s aerobics outfit including bright neon spandex and sweatbands to really get into the theme.  Youtube “Just Dance 2” and get the whole group learning a choreographed dance to Ke$sha you can bust out at the next party.   A less sweaty alternative is to round up the girls and go all out for cocktails at happy hour before all the couples start filling in.  Wear a fun party dress in a totally unexpected color (how about bright blue?) and add your trendy pattern tights you didn’t quite know how to wear before.  You’ll have all the couples in the place envious of how much fun you and your girls are having.

I know you all will be looking smokin’ no matter what activities you find yourself doing this Valentines Day.  I hope all of you spend it happily with someone you love- it doesn’t matter if it’s your boy or your girls. And always remember: Confidence and a smile are always there when you don’t know WTW!

Cautionary Note:  If you find yourself alone, sad, and extremely tipsy…this is the one time I am giving you permission to wear full sweats.  Mascara and red wine are NOT stains easily removed .
