While some brave people celebrate Halloween by watching the creepy, gory, everyone-dies kind of horror films, others may watch movies that are slightly calmer. If you’re like me, you prefer to watch Halloween movies that don’t result in you hiding underneath a blanket or watching through your fingers. Here are some of the best non-horror (but still spooky) Halloween movies for the easily-scared.

10. Practical Magic

If you’re looking for a spooky romantic comedy, you are in luck. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman play two sister witches who are cursed; Any man that they fall in love with is destined to die. Dealing with love and witches, this movie portrays the perfect mix between romance and spookiness.

9. Harry Potter

Enter the magical universe of wizards and prepare to feel the excitement of Halloween. Harry Potter must defend his school and his friends against He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named or otherwise known as Voldemort, the Dark Lord. Harry’s journey is spread out through eight different movies. So, if you have a free weekend, feel free to binge watch them all. Trust me, losing sleep is definitely worth watching the wonderful wizarding world of Harry Potter. Wizards, dragons, and other fantastic beasts will undoubtedly boost your Halloween spirit.

8. The Nightmare Before Christmas

Enjoy this animated dark musical mix between Halloween and Christmas. Produced by the one and only Tim Burton. The plot starts with Jack Skellington from Halloween Town finds his way into the portal to Christmas Town. This movie will ultimately get you in the spirit for the holidays to come.

7. Casper

This movie is a childhood classic. Casper, the friendly ghost, befriends a young girl named Kat, while at the same time, his three uncles try scaring Kat and her father out of the house. The friendship between Casper and Kat grow. Casper is a great movie to put you in a feel-good Halloween mood.

6. Twitches

Twitches follows the story behind two twin witches. Long ago, in a magical land named Coventry, two twin witches were born. They were separated and taken to the real world. The sisters lived their separate lives, never knowing that they had a twin or that they were witches. Until one day, their paths crossed. They must join forces to take down evil that dominates Coventry in order to save their birth mother. Twitches is a great Halloween movie. Plus, if you couldn’t get enough of the first one, there is a sequel!

5. Fun Size

Victoria Justice plays a teenage girl who is stuck babysitting her younger brother on Halloween. Unfortunately, she ends up losing him. Her and her friends must go on a wild goose chase to find her brother. Meanwhile, she still wants to make it to the biggest Halloween party of the school, specifically, the one her crush is throwing. Fun Size is a hilarious Halloween comedy and romance all in one. It is perfect for getting into the spirit.

4. The Haunted Mansion

A man, portrayed by Eddie Murphy, is a busy realtor who doesn’t leave much time for his family. He decides to take his family on a trip to a nearby lake, but first makes a pit stop at a ghostly mansion. When a storm hits, him and his family are forced to stay the night in the haunted mansion. Watching a family trapped in a ghost-filled mansion, what more could a Halloween fanatic wish for?

3. The Addams Family

This spooky, comedic Halloween film is definitely a classic. The Addams family is a very creepy family. With a missing family member who may have been found, a mystery still surrounds the family. Watch the movie to discover the truth behind the Addams family.

2. Halloweentown, Return to Halloweentown 2: Kalabar’s Revenge, Halloweentown High, and Return to Halloweentown

Okay, so I know that I cheated, but I couldn’t pick just one of them. The Halloweentown movies are fun Halloween movies for all ages. They follow the journey of a young witch named Marnie and her family. Her grandma is a resident of a place called Halloweentown. When evil takes over Halloweentown, it is up to Marnie and her siblings to help save the day. Throughout the movie series, Marnie meets new monsters, experiences new friendships, and faces more difficulties. Binge watch them all. It’s worth it.
