Christmas time approacheth!! As we neareth the glorious season of gift giving and receiving we find that homes will be decorated with pine trees/ spruce trees/plastic trees, stockings, lights, garlands, wreaths, santa figurines, manger scenes and candy canes. To commemorate the upcoming holiday season: We reached out to the one and only Rockefeller Christmas tree! Here some fun facts abou the tree as well as an interview from the famous tree itself.

Name: Rockefeller “Rocky” Christmas Tree.

Age: Idk brah, however old you want me to be.

Hometown: Oneotona, NY

Current City: NYC BABYYY specifically 30 Rockefeller Plaza, New York 10112

Height: 94 ft

Weight: Um…no

Relationship Status: Single as a Pringle

Type/Species: Norway Spruce

Fun Facts:

  1. 25,000 crystals adorn the Swarovski star that has been topping the tree for the past 12 years.

  2. Wondering how the ginormous tree is able to reach Manhattan without any traffic jams or blaring car horns from NY drivers, well it’s snuck in at night with a police escort.

  3. In the holiday season, the tree gets around 800,000 spectators each day.

  4. The Rockefeller Christmas Tree tradition has been around for over 80 years.

  5. All Rockefeller Christmas Trees remains are donated to Habitat for Humanity. The tradition began in 2007 when the owner of Rockefeller Center donated that year’s tree to construct a new home for Hurricane Katrina survivors

The tree lighting ceremony is coming up, are you excited?

R: Of course I am! I’m so excited and I just can’t hide it i’m about to lose control and I just can’t hide it! Ever since I arrived in the glamorous Manhattan on Nov. 12 I have not been able to contain myself. I can’t wait to be dressed and trimmed. I can’t wait for the ceremony and seeing all the celebrities, all the people there to witness the unveiling of the new and improved ME! I’m ready to get LITTT!!!!

I’m honestly excited too! My favorite part about visiting NYC when I was younger was stopping by the tree and gazing at the beautiful lights and decorations. And that star. Absolutely gorgeous!

R: Well I’m excited too. I’m still in shock at the fact that I was chosen for this spectacular moment. I really miss my family. As you know I’m from upstate NY, I had a lot of memories with the Eichler family. They really took care of me and I’m grateful for them raising me up to be the best Christmas tree I could be.

At a whopping 94 feet, you are currently the second tallest tree. How does that feel?

R: Well I get my height from my mom so it is quite the honorable title. I just want to thank my parents for these wonderful genetics. If it weren’t for them I wouldn’t have been chosen to be THE Christmas tree in Rockefeller Plaza.

Anything else you would like to share?

R: I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! Be blessed y’all!

Whether on your couch or in Midtown Manhattan you can catch Rocky get LIT on NBC’s Christmas in Rockefeller Center on Nov. 30th 7 p.m EST. The tree will remain LIT everyday until January 7, 2017.
