Glam It Yourself for Spring!
Whoever said spring cleaning meant tossing out the old to make room for the new obviously didn’t have a makeup sponge, nail polish, and a “Glam It Yourself” idea in hand. Revamping and creating original, trendy fashion pieces is what “Glam It Yourself” is all about. It’s nonsense to throw out any part of your wardrobe when it can be made into something glamorous and in trend for the next season. With spring around the corner everyone knows that accessories like colorful jewelry are one of the main eye-catching outfit pieces. One definite way to make a fashion statement is to stand out, and that’s just what you’ll be doing with these G.I.Y pieces of jewelry.
What You’ll Need :
Nail polish (Lots of it in any colors you desire!)
Jewelry (Any old, worn out, or plain pieces you want to make pop!)
An old sheet, mat, or any other material to place over the surface you’re working on.
Makeup or paint sponge.
Step 1 : Grab a handful or a basketful of jewelry! Any pieces that are worn out, need revamping, or are just plain to your eyes. From earrings to necklaces any piece will work for this easy-to-do glam project.
Step 2 : Spread out your pieces of jewelry on the covered surface (with a mat, sheet, or other material) you’re working on. Make sure none of the jewelry is touching since they are going to have to dry afterwards.
Step 3: Have your nail polishes on the covered surface with the makeup or paint sponges and get ready for the “coloring” part! Pick one of your jewelry pieces to glam up first. Then pick one nail polish color or as many as you like! You can get as creative as you want since you are going to be painting these jewelry pieces with the nail polish. Think of it as a well-needed manicure and pedicure for your accessories!
Step 4: Once you have your color(s) picked out you’ll be coating the edge of a makeup or paint sponge with the nail polish. Make sure the sponge has enough polish on it to paint the jewelry piece you’re working on, not too much or too little. Now all you have to do is dab the jewelry with the makeup sponge applying the color onto it. You’ll see it transforming right before your eyes with the pop of color. It’s okay if it’s a bit messy too; the nail polish will dry smoothly once done. You can paint the jewelry one polish color or add hints of other colors on it too by just applying it to the makeup sponge again then dabbing it on the jewelry.
Note: It may take two coats to have the polish color be as bright as you want for the spring season.
Step 5: Let your jewelry piece dry for about an hour (Work on other pieces while you wait!) and once it is done drying you can flip it over and work on the other side. Let the other side dry for an hour as well. Keep in mind that these sides don’t have to match. Have fun with it and go wild! You can even “ombre” your jewelry, which is definitely on trend this spring. Just pick three shades of a certain color and apply them from dark to light on your jewelry.
Step 6: Once your jewelry is completely dry it’s time to accessorize! Take a look at your arts of work, snap a picture, share with your friends, and start planning outfits to go with your glamorous new pieces.
