Everyone loves a classic carol, but this holiday season Sabrina Carpenter is here to save Christmas with her short and sweet holiday-themed EP. It consists of five songs for about 15 minutes of festive, vixen vibes. The popstar dropped her sassy Christmas album, “fruitcake” on Nov. 17, and it is a must-add to any holiday playlist.

Carpenter’s EP opens with, “A Nonsense Christmas” a remix of her certified platinum hit, “Nonsense.” This remix is just as fun as the original and expresses her creativity in the lyrics, similar to when she performs “Nonsense” live and improvs the outro every time. The first verse immediately sets the tone with lyrics including, “Think I only want you under my mistletoe / I might change your contact to ‘Has a huge North Pole,’” revealing her creative skill and playfulness right off the bat. “A Nonsense Christmas” is the perfect opener to Carpenter’s Christmas EP and is easily one of my new holiday favorites.

Another favorite track of mine is “buy me presents”, which is another upbeat and frisky track of the five. It has a sassier tone consisting of lively lyrics like, “If you’re not gonna race here from the / North Pole to Beverly Hills / Just to keep my stocking filled / Well, I know somebody who will,” and one of my favorite parts of the song, “Hе’s a little bit older (Like, super old) / Got a bit of a dad bod / From a city that’s colder (Brr) / But damn it, he’s so hot.” Carpenter shows that she doesn’t have to be so serious in her songs when the lyrics are witty and it’s always a good listen. “Buy me presents” along with the second to last track “is it new years yet?” are original, flirty and upbeat holiday hits.

One of the more popular songs right now is “cindy lou who”, which is the gloomiest track on the album. This one is a ballad that displays the feelings of a lover moving on with another girl and heartbreak during the holidays. This song can easily be played all year round despite the subtle holiday references. Carpenter focuses this track on her intense emotions, and I could see myself listening to this all year round when I’m needing a heart-wrenching ballad to cry to.

“Santa doesn’t know you like i do” is another sweet song that starts off as a softer ballad but picks up throughout.

The EP is closed with a beautiful rendition of Bing Crosby’s, “White Christmas” titled, “white xmas.” This song flexes her vocal ability with her angelic voice, the talent is real. Many Christmas songs are referenced in this track, and it is beautifully done making it its own unique classic for holiday seasons to come.

I think we can all agree that Sabrina Carpenter is a very talented artist who is multifaceted. Carpenter uses “fruitcake” to further reveal her ability and creativity with unserious yet fun-loving hits, while also displaying her serious talent with the slowed down, melancholy feeling songs. One thing I know for sure is, she didn’t lie when she sang, “Woke up this morning, thought I’d write a Christ-smash.”
