Are Aliens the New Vampires?

First it was zombies, then it was vampires, now is it aliens? If you’ve been to the movies recently, you have without a doubt seen a preview for one of the many movies surrounding aliens about to hit theaters. It appears to be that Hollywood is over the blood sucking vampires and is going alien crazy. Here is a run down of some of the extraterrestrial movies coming to a theater near you.
 

I Am Number Four (in theaters now)
Movie over R. Alex Pettyfer is the new hottie sure to have all the girls drooling. Pettyfer plays a teen alien on the run from the enemy that is trying to kill him. He ends up having to change his identity and move, leading him to his first love played by Diana Agron.

Battle (in theaters now)
In this sci-fi thriller, aliens begin to take over the world when they land on earth. The humans need to fight the invaders and gain back control of the world. This action packed, man vs. alien movie stars Aaron Eckhart, Michelle Rodriguez and Bridget Moynahan.

Mars Needs Mom (in theaters now)
This Disney animation featuring the voices of Seth Green, Joan Cusack and Dan Fogler follows a young boy, Milo. After an argument with his mother, martians enter Milo’s house and abduct her. The story follows Milo on his journey to rescue his mother from the martians and bring her back home.

Paul (in theaters now)
This adult comedy is about two British geeks traveling the U.S. to the nations most famous UFO location, Area 51. There, they have an alien encounter with a little green man, who takes them on a crazy road trip. Starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, and featuring the voice of Seth Rogen as Paul, this comedy will have your stomach cramping from laughter.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon (not released yet)
The Autobots and the Decepticons are back, and it’s up to Sam Witwicky to save the world, again. The movie should be in theaters sometime in 2011.


Apollo 18 (not released yet)
This sci-fi thriller is based off a real space mission from the 1970s that was canceled by NASA. The movie will be in theaters April 22.

Super 8 (not released yet)
A group of friends in an Ohio town witness a train crash in the summer of 1979. Soon after, people start disappearing and inexplicable events begin to take place. Belief that the train crash was not an accident is suspected leading the local Deputy to try to find the truth about the crash. Super 8 will be in theaters June 10.

Cowboys & Aliens (not yet released)
Taking place in 1873, a spaceship arrives in Arizona. Aliens begin to take over the earth, and it’s up to the Cowboys of the Wild West to stop them. Starring Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, and Olivia Wilde, Cowboys and Aliens will be in theaters July 29.

The Darkest Hour (not yet released)
A group of kids in Russia try to stay alive after an alien invasion. The Darkest Hour will be in theaters August 5.

Devin is a sophomore at West Virginia University, class of 2013. She was a direct-admit into the School of Journalism as a freshman, where she is now majoring in Public Relations with two minors in Political Science and Professional Writing & Editing. Devin started her journalism career in Fairmont, WV. In high school, she served as the Editor-in-Chief of the 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 Maple Leaves Yearbook, which went on to receive a Silver Medal in the Columbia Scholastic Program of Achievement. She was a columnist for her local newspaper, The Times West Virginian, for two years. During her senior year in high school, Devin was a columnist for a national magazine, Gladys, where she went on to become the Public Relations Manager. At WVU, Devin is a member of Chi Omega Sorority. In her spare time, Devin enjoys drinking skinny vanilla lattes, watching Saturday Night Live (re-runs, of course, because she is never home on a Saturday night), and buying cocktail dresses. When she grows up, Devin wants to be a lawyer.
