I have loved having platinum blonde hair ever since I first bleached it about a year ago. The only problem with this hair color is the constant maintenance. To get to the root of the problem (hehe), lot of this maintenance is done in the shower. And after trials and tribulations, I have found that the most inexpensive, but damn worth it purple shampoo and conditioner is Clairol Professional’s Shimmer Lights for blonde and silver hair. This brand has been around forever and this product in particular has always been popular. Purple shampoos and conditioners and made specially for the blondes who want to cancel out the yellow and brassy tones that hair tends to turn after bleaching.
At only about $18 for both of the 16 ounces of shampoo and conditioner on Amazon, this stuff is also extremely affordable. I usually will choose to use the shampoo with a rehydrating conditioner or use a sulfate-free shampoo with the purple conditioner to keep the brittle blonde strands from breaking.
Bleach does weaken the hair, so using the sulfate-free saves your hair from harsh chemicals that are known to strip hair. I use Aveeno’s Pure Renewal Shampoo which you can get two bottles on Amazon for less than $12.

I also try to comb my hair as much as possible when its wet. Because my hair is so brittle and dry from the bleaching, it tangles really easily and combing it in the shower helps prevent breaking and knots. I got my Conair shower comb from Target for only like $2 and it has given life to my hair.

Lastly, I really just try to let my hair style itself. Heated tools and constant washing is terrible for already-distressed hair. Dry shampoo brands like Not Your Mother’s is great for that last-minute style instead of washing your hair and ridding it of essential oils.
