Memories as a Mountaineer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WVU chapter.

I watched many of my best friends graduate in May of 2012, I watched some more walk across the stage this December and soon the rest of my WVU family will be leaving Morgantown in May.  The minute your senior year roles around you begin to look back at your best memories at West Virginia University and begin to plan the memories you want to make. While my friends and I celebrated the goals we have all reached after the ceremony we began making lists of things we want to do before May and reminisced on the memories we already made. So I asked three December graduates what their best memory at WVU and three current students what they want to do before May rolls around so juniors, freshman and even seniors can all take advantage of their time as a college student is over

Ashleigh Valentina, a December Grad with a degree in Public Relations major said her best memory was,
“When I interned for the Sports Communication office we had to sit in the press box and there is a strict no-cheering rule.  So in the last 3 minutes of one of the football games we got to go onto the field.  It was such an adrenaline rush to be on the sidelines and finally cheer on WVU!”

Josh Davis, a December Grad with a degree in Visual Journalism major said his best memory was,
“Living on Beverly was a highlight for sure.  Having so many houses full of good friends and all on the same street was too good. I am grateful to experience the original Sunnyside of the time before reconstruction.”

Derek Dornes, a December Grad with a degree in Marketing said his best memory was,
“My best experience at WVU was the football game against Uconn after Jasper Howard got stabbed and passed away.  It was an emotional filled day and Jarrett Brown got hurt in the first quarter and Geno Smith came in for the first time ever and led us to a nail biting victory.  After the game the whole stadium started chanting, “Jasper Howard!” It was the most exciting and emotional game I’ve ever been to.”

For you still in college reading this you probably are saying, I have had great memories and I have done awesome things but I want to do more.

Brittany Pryor a senior and Public Relations major said,
“ I have gone to the football games, I have tailgated, I have sang Country Roads at the end of the game and they all are amazing memories but I am telling everyone to take that weekend off work and road trip to a WVU game.  I have been waiting to have this opportunity and finally I can.  My friends and I are all going to the WVU Pinstripe game and I know this is going to be something I will never forget.  To be in a different state and watch all the WVU fans come together to beat Syracuse is going to be such an exhilarating feeling.”

Corina Catapano, a junior and Public Relations major said,
“ College is the last time where we are able to take advantage of so many fun experiences.  After this we will be working full time and not have as much flexibility in our lives. I want to go sky-diving! I think if everyone does one crazy thing like sky-diving, study abroad or a random road trip with your best friends during college is something they will never forget it.”

And for myself, every experience and memory I have had at WVU has been an amazing one but it would not mean anything to me if it was not for the people who shared them with me.  I have met lifelong friends, guys I consider my brothers, my bridesmaids, my true friends. I want to take advantage of every opportunity I have to spend with these people.  I want to rent a cabin and go snowboarding, I want to make as many trips to Blue Hole and Arden Falls as possible, I want to go to a Basketball game with them, I want to have one more amazing spring break, I want to have too many movie and wine nights, I want to be there for them if their heart gets broken or if they do not what to buy their girlfriend on Valentine’s Day.  I want to make our last semester the best semester yet and be able to look back when I walk across that stage in May and say “I really did have the best years of my life.”

Tori is a senior at West Virginia University. She majors in Advertising and aspires to work in a big advertising agency after graduation. Tori was both Social Chair and Public Relations Chair for her sorority, Kappa Kappa Gamma. She enjoys being involved in different organizations at WVU. Originally from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Tori was born and raised a Mountaineer. She loves to hang out with friends and be social. Tori would describe herself as outgoing, passionate, and motivated.
