The Dos and Don’ts of Making a More Positive You
Your rent is due. You have a flat tire. You failed a test. Let’s face it, when it rains, it pours. It is easy to feel like the whole world is against you sometimes. It is time to ditch these negative thoughts and focus on all of the good in your life! Check out these dos and don’ts to make a more positive you:
Do take notes- every night before bed, write down ten things that you are thankful for. Your family, best friends, the beautiful weather- anything!
Don’t dwell on the past- We live in the present and the future is ahead, meaning, there is no reason to dwell on things that happened in the past. So you failed a test. You obviously can’t change your grade now, so just aim to do better next time. Stressing about things that you can’t change now is pointless. Move on!
Do a random act of kindness- a little compliment goes a long way.
Don’t blame others for your mistakes- although it may be hard, owning up to your mistakes will avoid drama and clear your conscience, making a happier you! Everybody makes mistakes; just own it.
Do surround yourself with positive people- being around “Debbie Downers” all of the time can really put a damper on your own happiness. Spend time with those who think positively!
Do exercise- studies show that people who exercise are happier and less stressed so grab some friends and hit the gym!
Don’t bottle up your feelings- bottling up your feelings can lead to one big meltdown down the road. Be open about how you are feeling and communicate! Talking to friends and family will instantly make you feel better.
Don’t sweat the small stuff.
Do go with the flow and enjoy life- life doesn’t always go as planned and sometimes it can be overwhelming, but no matter what happens, you are the only one in control of your happiness and outlook on life. Is your glass half full or half empty?
