Q: What made you get involved with the National MS Society?
A: I had my first on-set of relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis in 2010. Over the years and through the course of treatment, I realized that a lot of my friends didn’t really understand the disease. I wanted to bring awareness to WVU and help other students with friends and family suffering with MS understand it better. I also wanted to let the community know that this is a disease worth fighting for.
I contacted the National MS Society over Christmas Break to see what I could do to start a college chapter. The forwarded my information to the President of the Bluefield, W Va. chapter. She came to Morgantown for a few days to discuss options. Right now I am doing mass distribution of brochures for the MS Walk in Fairmont on April 22. I’m working to gather volunteers for community service to help with the mass distribution in Morgantown, Clarksburg and Fairmont.
I think that this will be a great stepping stone to bring MS awareness to the WVU campus.
Q: What do you like best about your job with the MS Society?
A: I love that I am doing something that is going to really help people. I think that by making everyone more aware of the disease, we can help get more people to advocate and raise money to hopefully find a cure one day.
Q: What would you like people to know about the organization?
A: The MS Society is a wonderful non profit organization that helps increase awareness of MS. They work with hospitals to open MS clinic and provide amazing services to people who suffer with the disease.
