The Next Web Site You Have to be On: Pinterest

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WVU chapter.

What are your hobbies and interests? How many times have you heard that question? I feel like my go-to response for way too many years was the clichĂ©, valley girl answer which consisted of, “Shopping! Hanging out with my friends and going out!” As a collegiette, no one will take you seriously if you whole-heartedly say those are your hobbies and/or interests. But wait… there’s a fix.

If you haven’t heard of Pinterest then you haven’t lived. What better way to spend your free time than pinning? Alas! An alternative to playing games in class!

Pinterest is a visual bulletin board for the web. The mission statement states that “Pinterest is to connect everyone in the world through shared tastes and the ‘things’ they find interesting.” Although it has been around for two years, it didn’t really start generating a lot of interest until this year. As of December, Pinterest became one of the web’s top 10 social networks.

Pinterest is still a bit on the exclusive side, you can only get an account after being invited. (If you don’t know anyone with an account, you can request an invite right on the website and it shouldn’t take long.)

You can browse through topics varying from DIY & crafts, fitness, food & drink, humor, apparel, etc. I’m telling you once you get on, you will be hooked.

A lot of what you see is pretty realistic too. I’ve tried several of the recipes that I have seen on the site and have tried a lot of the DIY too — I found an at-home pore strip mask that I tried that works wonders — and they have all been amazing.

Check it out. I guarantee you’ll thank me later.
