Spring is in the Air!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WVU chapter.

It was only a week ago that I was crying on High Street because the 4 degree weather was going to “make my feel fall off.” Last week, however, my feet remained very warm and snug in my gladiator flip-flops while I walked to class (aka day-drank) in the 70 degree, mostly sunny, weather.

When it’s freezing and snowing outside- no one wants to go to class. Similarly, when it’s beautifully sunny outside- no one will want to go to class. Many of us WVU students would much rather ditch our priorities and take a stroll around town with our buddies.

The warm weather doesn’t usually start making its way into Morgantown until after everyone gets back from Spring Break, so what’s with it now? Will this weather last? I thought the ground-hog saw his shadow… I somehow always knew that stinky animal was a moron.

Whatever the case may be, Global Warming or not, it should be a heck of a lot colder in West Virginia right now. The rest of February’s forecast suggests the temperature will vary between the high 40s and mid-50s. Not quite what we experienced last week, but not too shabby.

For those of you still holding strong on your New Year resolutions and working out towards that spring break bod, congratulations… you’re one of the few! Spring Break is but a month away! Take advantage of the warm weather by using it as an alternative for the gym – being active outside is a great way to take advantage of the lovely weather. You may even try roller-blading, jogging or biking on the bike-path by the Waterfront (FYI: There are creepy people down there as the night falls, so try to go during the earlier hours of the day.)
Of course you may also celebrate the warm weather with friends and cocktails by hitting up Frat Row, house parties, or for those of age, maybe even a day-time bar, like Sport’s Page, for some afternoon delight!

Born and raised a beach girl, I WILL be taking advantage of the weather and basking in the sun, and I advise all of you to do the same!

She was a columnist for her local newspaper, The Times West Virginian, for two years. During her senior year in high school, Devin was a columnist for a national magazine, Gladys, where she went on to become the Public Relations Manager. At WVU, Devin is a member of Chi Omega Sorority. In her spare time, Devin enjoys drinking skinny vanilla lattes, watching Saturday Night Live (re-runs, of course, because she is never home on a Saturday night), and buying cocktail dresses. When she grows up, Devin wants to be a lawyer.
