This Spring’s Trends in Fashion and Make-up

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WVU chapter.

In just about every magazine you pick up there’s probably an article about the “latest spring trends,” but who says that these styles are what’s “in” right now? Girls, look no further – these are the REAL trends for West Virginia University’s spring – styles that are actually in stores and attainable for any budget.

Fashion

Floral Prints: Yes, floral prints have been big for a few seasons now, but they’re starting to become more popular in stores that you wouldn’t expect to see them in. The flirty, romantic look is really big for spring. American Eagle has a lot of tunics, camis and cropped camis that are super flirty, light and fun for the warm weather. Personally, I never thought I could pull off the floral thing, but I recently bought a great floral print dress from Figleaf on High Street in Morgantown for only $32 that I’m in love with.

Bright Colors:
Bright, neon colors are huge for spring. One color that I’ve really been seeing a lot of in stores is color. Coral is all over Express right now.  I paired this white pleated tank with a coral, high-waisted skirt – both from Express and both $34.90. (I got lucky and got them for buy one, get one half off.) Want some matching nail polish? Sephora by O.P.I Nail Colour in Special Request. It was on sale at Sephora for $5!

Nude Shoes: This has to be the biggest trend for the spring. Nude shoes are really cute and they go perfectly with any outfit. Recently, Charlotte Russe had a really big online sale of all their nude sandals and heels a few weeks ago. If you are fairly confident about your shoe size, look around online for good shoe sales. I got this pair of blush-colored stilettos online from Wet Seal during a buy one for $15, get one for $10 sale.

Make-up

Orange lips: An orange-based lip color is really popular right now. If you’re afraid to try a crazy, bright-orange color like the runway models (and I don’t blame you), try an orange-red color like Estee Lauder lipstick in Nectarine.

Purple eye shadow:
Purple makes any eye color look great. There are many different shades of purple shadow, so find one that compliments your skin tone. If brighter purple clashes with what you’re wearing, try a darker, silver-toned purple like Lorac Starry-Eyed Baked Shadow Trio in Starlet. It’s $26 at Sephora, but I swear to you it’s worth every penny. I’m the last person that wants to spend a ton of money on make-up, but this eye shadow is really long lasting and shows up well. You can apply it dry for a daytime look or wet for a more dramatic effect. It gets my vote for the best smoky eye.

Of course, you shouldn’t ever pair the orange lips and the purple eye shadow together. That would just be scary. The cardinal rule of make-up is to play up one feature. Also, remember to keep it fresh and light for spring. Try dusting on a light mineral powder instead of using a heavy foundation.
