The #ShareYourRejections challenge has been trending on Twitter recently, and for good reason. Everyone is sharing their experiences with constructive, and not so constructive, criticism in an attempt to inspire others to never give up. The wide array of stories ranges from teens getting rejected from crushes, people with disabilities proving their doubters wrong and even established authors who have faced years of rejection prior to major success are participating in the conversation.
Here are some of the best rejection tweets so far.
I had a paper rejected once because I “didn’t seem to know the work of Jo Sharp well enough” – I am Jo Sharp!!! #ShareYourRejections

Spent years being told as nicely as possible that a career in the acting industry simply wasn’t a viable option because there weren’t enough roles for disabled people in the industry. Now I earn a living from a role for a disabled character. #ShareYourRejections

My submission was rejected because one reviewer feels I do not know the research problem well. The reviewer suggests me to read Paper A to have a better understanding. Paper A is my paper. #ShareYourRejections

Once I received a rejection email, telling me they were going to explore other applicants. Fine, except I’d already been hired and working there for two months. Asked if I was being fired. Turns out it was just a computer error, but still funny. #ShareYourRejections

At 18 I wanted to be the host of the dolphin show at Six Flags, they told me I was lacking stage presence and I didn’t get the job. At 26, I’m making my principle debut in my second broadway show. WHOSE GOT STAGE PRESENCE NOW!?!?! ??♀️??♀️???#ShareYourRejections

A producer once told me my script was brilliant but would never be made because it was the kind of thing that would have to be made by women. 4 years and 70+ rejections later, it’s got a team of amazing women attached and should start filming within the year #ShareYourRejections

#ShareYourRejections I was initially rejected from mainstream schooling because of my disability, mum and dad fought to get me into our local primary school for a trial – I passed. I’m now onto my 2nd Masters degree and run my own business #disabledandproud #flipthenarrative

I was rejected for a job by @TwitterEng years ago, even tho I knew several people on the team who liked me & wanted me to join. I was later told by HR that one of the interviewers said I “didn’t know JS” very well. That was part of the motivation for @YDKJS. #ShareYourRejections

In high school I wanted to intern at the newspaper we had in town and my principal said she didn’t think I could make it because I made too many mistakes on the school newsletter. I’ve written and published a book recently. #ShareYourRejections #ShareYourRejection

I’ve been too young, too old, too classy, too rough, too big, too small, but my personal favourite? Too ‘Kate Winslet’….
Still mystified by that one… #ShareYourRejections
