Thanksgiving break is a great opportunity for many students to get a leg up on applying for internships and jobs. With technology and the internet playing a prominent role in our society, it should come as no surprise that employers will look your name up. Can you say with complete confidence that your results will come back exactly the way you would like them to? If not, you’ve got a little work to do.Â
I’ve been told before that some employers assume that WVU students are big partyers. Okay, so this may be true to some extent but you should never prove them right. That means, deleting any beer bonging pictures, clumsy tweets or anything of the sort. This is by far the easiest way to help yourself out and the first thing you should do. First impressions mean a lot.Â
Next, Google your name. Does everything that comes up represent you the way you like? If not, you need to make your way onto the websites that have access to your information and modify your information or delete your account. There’s no point to have your 8th grade Xanga blog for the world to see anymore.
Lastly, create the content you want to be seen! If you’re a phenomenal writer, start a blog and write about things related to your industry or interests. Showcase your talent and skills by making an online portfolio. Create professional social media accounts and engage with people in your industry.Â
What’re you waiting for?
