Summer break is approaching fast for college students. I think at this point we are all a little burnt out and in need of a break. Soon enough everyone will be asking, “What are your plans for the summer?” If you don’t have solid plans yet, this question can be a little stressful. The most important thing is to try to make your summer as productive and enjoyable as possible. So, without further ado, here are some options for your summer break!
Â
1. Apply for an internship
Most deadlines for nationally competitive summer internships are in late March. However, you can still find some last minute ones. Search online yourself or seek help from the career services office on your campus. They will be glad to help you.
Â
2. Get a part time job
Many internships are unpaid. So, if you didn’t get your dream internship, pick up a part time job instead and earn some cash. What’s better than earning your own money and spending it how you like? It will be rewarding. Try retail, libraries, banks, stores, restaurants, summer camps, etc. Most of these jobs only require a high school diploma.
Â
3. Volunteer
Try the animal shelter, homeless shelter, and churches. Volunteering is both a rewarding experience which allows you to give back to the community and a way to boost your resume.
Â
4. Learn a language
Employers are more apt to hire those that can speak two languages; especially Spanish. Pick up a language dictionary or connect with a native speaker to learn fast.
Â
5. Take an online class
This is very beneficial because you can ensure that you will finish your degree on time and remain productive over the summer. If you take one at a community college, you are sure to save money.
Â
6. Read a book
Reading is good for your mind and it will keep you in the school mindset. You will always learn something from reading a book.
Â
7. Join a gym
It’s so important to exercise, not only for your physical health but your mental health as well. Try to join with a friend for extra motivation!
Â
8. Travel
Whether you travel within or outside of the U.S, it will be an adventure. Airbnb and Groupon have great deals. Check them out and take advantage of traveling while you have the free time! Consider studying abroad as well.
Â
9. Catch up with your old friends
Take the time to hangout with the friends you don’t get a chance to see while you’re away at school studying. They will appreciate it.
Â
10. Pick up a new hobby
Is there something you’ve always been interested in or wanted to learn how to do? Summer break is the perfect time to go for it. You could learn how to play an instrument, cook or even paint.Â
Â
I hope one of these options sparks some interest for you. Whatever you end up doing this summer, have a great break and make the most of it!Â
