Halloween is one of the best holidays for any age group, but especially collegiettes. This is the time of year where we can make obscure costume references from classic media, or wear the riskier cat costume we always had our eye on. However, it is also a time where the need to be safe is raised exponentially. We know that in the rush to have fun, we often forget the risks involved, so here are five helpful tips to help keep you safe this Halloween:
1. Go in a trusted group.
This may seem obvious, but if you are planning on going out, go out with a group of people you trust. While it may seem fun to go with the cool neighbor, if you wouldn’t trust them taking care of your pet fish, don’t trust them to watch out for you on Halloween.
2. Pay attention to what you consume.Â
This may also seem like a no brainer, but Halloween is the time where people can easily hand you candies and gummy treats that aren’t as innocent as they seem. Many new drugs look like everyday candy, and it is no secret that gummy candies can be easily soaked in vodka. This is why it is vital to only take things from trusted friends, or better yet, don’t take anything from anyone.
3. Wear flat shoes. Â
Heels may be super cute, but after a couple of hours they will most likely hurt your feet and aren’t the safest way to get home. If you’re in an emergency situation, you definitely don’t want to be caught in footwear that you can’t run in.
4. Enable the buddy system.
Within the larger group going out, have one person who you’re responsible for and vice versa. This added level of responsibility will ensure that everyone gets home safe and sound, and that one girl doesn’t mysteriously go missing in the night.
5. When in doubt, stay in.
If you are concerned that Halloween won’t be safe for you, or don’t want to go out on the town, plan a movie night instead. This is a great way to hang out with friends in a completely safe environment and have just as much fun as those going out. There are so many amazing classic Halloween movies you can marathon, leading to a night of laughs and little chance for any kind of regret in the morning.
